Shi is miles out of his depth and Sellars is clearly not up to that particular task.I don’t know how senior figures didn’t know. If training ground staff are telling people about bust ups, people refusing to play and the training ground mood being shit then why are Sellars, Shi whoever unaware?
I'm not comparing Lopetegui to Lage, but if/when it happens it'll be no more an appointment made by the club than the last one, or the one before tbfThat's why the next manager needs to be a proper senior footballing appointment
I don't see why he would. The club chose Lage over him, he's closer to home and playing every week. With them having an option we wouldn't have a say in it eitherDoes make me wonder if Coady might come back if the new manager wanted him to, and what might influence that decision. Even if the new manager is less... marmite, shall we say, would he want to come back to a squad where most of his main peers from the past 5-6 years have also moved on?

They have the option in terms of the transfer, sure, but he could always turn down their permanent contract offer (assuming one hasn't been negotiated already just in case as part of the initial loan). Unlikely though, I agree.I don't see why he would. The club chase Lage over him, he's closer to home and playing every week. With them having an option we wouldn't have a say in it either
Even the Wolves Twitter get in on it.Podence has stuck the knife in and twisted.
I'd argue against that tbf.I'm not comparing Lopetegui to Lage, but if/when it happens it'll be no more an appointment made by the club than the last one, or the one before tbf
If there is an option it generally means the full contract has been agreed and will start the moment the club do whatever is needed to sign him on a permanent dealThey have the option in terms of the transfer, sure, but he could always turn down their permanent contract offer (assuming one hasn't been negotiated already just in case as part of the initial loan). The bridge has been burnt. He’s playing every week, for a manager, DoF and club who respect him, living at his family home every day. Even if you ignore the not knowing the new manager and disliking senior officials at the club, why would he give that up. The grass can’t get much greener for him than it is at the moment. They have the option in terms of the transfer, sure, but he could always turn down their permanent contract offer (assuming one hasn't been negotiated already just in case as part of the initial loan). As I said I wasn't comparing him to Lage in terms of suitability for the job, it wouldn't be an appointment of someone clearly being over promoted like he was. I guess the only thing I'd question is who "we" is. It's still not exploring alternative options outside of who is on Mendes' books. If we did and he was the best out there then fair enough. It still feels to me like we limit ourselves for what is the most important role we employ someone for.I'd argue against that tbf.
- We wanted Lopetegui ages ago, he hasn't been available, he is now (well, will be)
- He'd actually get the job on merit, Lage unequivocally did not
- No-one with any sense (NB - not Martin Samuel here) would say Lopetegui is an inappropriate choice for a Premier League club
- Lots of clubs have similar biases and influences. Was Thomas Frank definitely the best manager in the world Brentford could get, or was it that he fits everything they do and is also quite good at the same time
- "The club" is Jeff doing Guo's bidding, heavily advised by Mendes, and has been for 5+ years. So it is a club appointment in that sense
There's no way you could look at it and say he's just a stooge. He's won more than most existing Premier League managers.
