Loan Watch 2022/2023

12 goals in 27.8 '90s'. One in every 2.3. Considering how bad Anderlecht were for so long that's quite good.
Transfermkt has him at a goal every 207 minutes this season including cup games.

But it's a bit of a misleading stat as it should be goals per chance and chances per 90.

Anyway I agree with @Carsy that it was right to loan him out but also right to not being him back.

Optics only look bad to the ignorant really (not aimed at @Carrotdude )

I also think not recalling him in January was the right option (even if had been free and he was happy to do so). But that was based on the premise of spending a lot of money in January, a new manger, plus the improvement in existing players/returns from injury improving us in the goalscoring department.

The moment I step on the field, I never think about those forty million euros. On the field, I always forget everything. I can have a hundred problems, but on the field I am a butterfly, completely free. It's the best place for me to be.
Dammit, I'm back on Fabio's side.

It's a bit of a no brainer as far as I'm concerned, bring him back and give him a go, if he's shit move him on in January for whatever we can get.
Doubt we'll be signing a top striker in the Summer.

Will Silva handle the Championship though?...

Looking forward to next season then.

Should hope he'd handle the Championship at 20, considering Neves and Jota were both too good for it when they were around the same age...

We had quite a few players who were too good for the Championship, even if they weren't necessarily good enough for the Prem.

His goals per mins ratio is pretty good isn't it?
To answer this fully and my own question. Fabio's hit rate for PSV is pretty good, the obvious caveat is it should be good as they are near the top of the table.

He currently has :
2.3 shots/ 90. (Which is poor in comparison to Madueke 5.48, Gakpo 3.93 and Luke de Jong 3.42)
1.6 shots on target/ 90 (better than Luke de Jong 1.48 but marginally worse than Gakpo 1.93 and Madueke 1.94)
1 goal / 3 shots on target (roughly a goal every 2 games)

A third of his shots are on target so assuming he could get in the right positions he would be better than any of our current forwards if metrics were comparable. Which of course they aren't.

Not sure about that, can't think of many that would be too good for the Championship, most were decent Championship quality and a few came from poorer leagues and ended up going back to poorer leagues.....Nuno was a fucking genius.

I dunno, from memory we had very few players who regularly played that wouldn't have been able to walk into the first XI of basically any other club in the Champ that year.

Possible gold-tinted glasses.

Doc would have been shit for anyone else.

Plenty of teams had at least comparable, often better main strikers than Bonatini and/or Afobe.

Douglas was another that suited us perfectly but wouldn't have been great for many others (indeed he wasn't after he left us, in the same league).

Miranda and Batth shared quite a fair bit of game time, neither are/were very good.

We had Boly, Neves and Jota who were unfairly good for that level, they were plug-in-and-play players for a top 10 PL club, even then.

Boly, Neves, Jota, N'Diaye, Saïss, Cav, all too good for that level that year IMO. First three embarrassingly so, as you say. Being able to pick from two of N'Diaye, Saïss, and Neves in midfield was practically cheating.

Granted that Doc and Barry were star-shaped pegs for our uniquely star-shaped holes at each wingback, but can't argue with their effectiveness for us, really.

Bit of both if you pick our most used 11.

Ruddy was still at a lower PL level

Bennett, Coady, Douglas, Bennett all beneficeries of the system, but 3 of them continued to do so in the PL

Boly, Jota, Neves way above that level

Saiss, 4 years as mainly PL first choice be it in a different position

Cav, left us to play regularly in the PL, but probably not consistently at that level

Bonatini, lightning in a bottle
