Loan Watch 2022/2023

I don’t know anyone who worships Silva except the odd child on twitter.

I’m probably like Del, still got half a hope that he can be a decent PL striker. He clearly has ability and instincts to be a good striker. Can see why attitude has come into question but he’s also having a season which is definitely clawing back some value as clubs clearly rate him.

Equally there’s people who want to dismiss him because of Shi’s hubris and to prove a point as they wrote him off in the first season. Phrases like farmers leagues makes me laugh, that’s as bad as the people who “worship him”

Honestly, I really don't see the problem.

When we have loan players come to us, they usually say nice things about how they'd like to stay to help them improve and it's up to the clubs etc etc to get us on their side. Yet we always seem to get upset when the reverse happens.

My point was somewhat obtuse, but I think you missed it
I think you're saying that you think he'll never be good enough, even when he's 25.

I'm saying I, personally, wouldn't write a player off until he's at least a bit older, maybe 22-23 and I've seen enough potential to give him a few more years yet.

Anyway, have a good day as this will no doubt end up in 5 pages about Silva!

No, Im saying that Bright's overall attitide and other deficiencies were explained away on here for years as being because he's only 17/18/19/20 etc. Nothing changed. I'm not saying it'll be the same with Silva, equally the he's only...argument isn't any real indication either.

Can only assumed it’s aimed at me.

Don’t think I’ve ever written him off, just be critical of the deal and the impact it had and is still having on the club.

As for “farmers league”, substitute that for “poor league(s) relative to the PL” and I don’t think it detracts from the wider point.

He's definitely improving.

He started off looking like he knew what he wanted to do but had the physique of a 10 year old and the mobility of a 90 year old, unsurprisingly he struggled to make an impact. Granted he's not playing against the level of competition he'll have to at Wolves but everyone can see he's improved physically no end and that's allowing him to show at least some of his talent now.

Attitude seems like it's maybe the next hurdle for him, been various question marks in that regard since he joined Wolves and few things been reported this season whilst at other clubs too. Could be something he matures out of or could be something he carries round with him his entire life. Someone on here mentioned him never wanting to join Wolves, if that's got any truth then it'll take a big turnaround to get him fully committed you'd think.

I think I read PSV want him next season too? I can't imagine them wanting to do that if his attitude isn't where it needs to be.

Then they need to buy him.

I want a £1m house, as I can't afford it and the owners won't rent it me for buttons I don't think I'll be getting one soon.

I just find it quite a tedious phrase now so forgive me, especially when we know good players can come out of these leagues. I thought using it did detract from your point as a result.

Think this is fair

I also think the physical development was just a natural part of his development process (he just got chucked in at such a stupid time and unavoidably because of the amount we spent on him too). His actual numbers that season are really not bad for a player that age too.

I’m on the fence with him really. If we stay up and our attacking options are Cunha, Sasa and him I’d be absolutely fine with it. If we got offered £15-20m for him you’d be tempted to take it (and stick some add ons) though

I think Fabio is at the MGW stage of just not wanting to be here now. I’d like to think that if JL wants to keep him around he’ll be able to convince him it’s a good option. My worry is that Jeff won’t want to sell his golden boy so will just loan him out for no benefit to us.

Regardless of how good he is and the quality of opposition it does look pretty stupid to go a whole year without a striker scoring for us while he’s out getting 15 in the last 6 months

Who's to say he'd have got any here?

By all accounts he's not pulled up any trees at the other clubs so bringing him back to not score doesn't seem productive to me.

I have no worries about selling him, getting £20m is the problem, along with Jeff Shi. Address those two issues and we can forget all about this stupid episode.

PSVs record transfer is €14m more than 20 years ago. He's not going there or anywhere else imo for anything like £20m

His goals per mins ratio is pretty good isn't it?

I still think loaning him out this summer was correct. He needs consistent game time for his development. I’d argue not having a recall clause in the loan was the silly part. Let’s be honest, no one anticipated Sasa losing a leg within 45 mins, Rauls groin going missing for a large part of the season as well.

I’ve been one of those who thinks Fabio will have a decent career. The 35m price tag will always be a stick to beat him with, and I get it. It was an absurd deal

I also agree that we shouldn’t be looking to loan him out next year. He will either be ready to play a part in the squad, or not. Will it be his fourth season? Hell be 21 by start of the season so you’d expect him to now be at-least squad ready, at the very least.

If he not ready, then yes, I’d be looking to move him on. I’d imagine we’d recoup 15mil potentially, or he’d be used in another deal.

I’m not saying he would, but it’s a bad look and explains some of the potentially ott opinions floating round about him.
