Liverpool 4-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Vitinha came on?

I'll be honest I fucked it off in a huff when the 3rd went in, hate scousers, hate tax avoiding corporations like Amazon so hated spending the whole match listening to Amazon employees wank off over there being 2000 scousers in the ground (literally how many times did they need to mention it) and the result wasn't helping either! Ha.

vitinha came on and looked really lively, one touch pass and move style - although the game was done and Liverpool weren’t pressing as much, so was a good cameo but probably wouldn’t force Nuno to put him in.

as for your second point - it was bloody painful wasn’t it!

Ah sounds promising, I can see Ait Nouri came on too so presume we switched to 3/5 at the back with wing backs and Vitinha in the hole behind a front two?

Yeah the media misconception of loveable scousers was really grating me even more than normal.

I'm a little dismayed that we moved away from the three behind Silva given how effective it was at unsettling Arsenal's defence. Having three different types of AM behind a focal link player meant they had to adjust differently every time we moved the ball to each one.

Last night Podence couldn't link play and Traore and Neto were stuck with trying to run past several players down each side of the pitch with Podence dropping deep often offering no link.

I think we should go back to 4-2-3-1 to see for sure if we really have something there.
Said as much last night.

We lost an attacking player by not letting Fabio start, and then added another body in the middle of midfield but failed to control possession anyway. You could tell this would be the case before a ball had been kicked!

Fabio played important roles in both of the goals against Arsenal. He might not score as many as Raul (he might, who knows?), but he is important to how we link play, and how those three attacking players behind him create opportunities. Without him there last night, we looked pretty toothless.

It was also noticeable on a number of occasions, that when we did get in attacking positions (mainly in the first half), both Podence & Neto had to cut back and pass it backwards because they had no one in the box - something that wasn't the case against Arsenal.

Again, I said it before a ball was kicked, and I'll say it again now - that one is on Nuno. He should have shown some faith in Fabio and let him start. Especially if we were always planning to play 4 at the back.

I didn't think Semedo was very good at all yesterday. Vs Arsenal I thought people were being harsh as they were overloading his side and he had little help but yesterday he got some of the basics horribly wrong and kept getting caught underneath it. Hopefully he will improve
Thought first half he was fine

The only thing that annoyed me with Traore was his reluctance to come inside, always went outside, needs to mix it up more imo, as he did against Arsenal especially with Semedo on the pitch....maybe Nuno told him not to?

Ait-Nouri played wide left. Stayed as a back 4.

I'm not sure why Nuno would tell him to stay wide when he created the opportunity for our second goal v Arsenal from a central position.

neither am I, so why doesn't he do it more often?

Must have done to double-up on Mane I guess?

As for the coverage of the game Clive Tyldsley gave everyone a clear reason why ITV binned him off. Unequivocally bias, patronising at times and genuine case of flippancy towards ourselves this when it was only 1-0
Got to agree with you jd. The commentary felt lazy throughout. Liverpool were accomplished (who'd have thought it possible), less frantic (insightful observation when they're 2-0 up and passing it around), while Wolves by contrast looked as though they'd given up when 1-0 down early in the second half. And, apparently, the Kop like it when Liverpool score at that end. No sh*t. Added nothing.

The commentary was utterly bizarre. Tyldesley has always been shit and he was just himself in the first half, but it was like they'd put something in his tea at half time. Started off with some bizarre sub-Partridge riff about how Stockley Park is like Alton Towers for refs (this seemed to last an eternity even though I'm sure it was only a matter of seconds. Did feel like death was a better option though than continuing to listen) and never improved from there.

Anyway.

I don't think it's a formation flaw.

Not so sure on the Semedo stick, he was up against one of the best players in the world, I thought he had a good first half as pretty much everyone other than Donck and Podence (bar the chip) did. You can pretend Doherty would have been just as good if you really want to
:D

It's individual errors rather than structural issues, though throwing the towel in at 0-2 isn't like us and Nuno was markedly unhappy with that.

Still, Marçal looks good.

Can someone teach Donck how to head a ball please? Keeps nodding it back to the opposition keeper as if it's a cushioned backpass. He could have had 4-5 goals in the last two games! If we're using him as an aerial weapon then it's key he can actually finish. Let's definitely not play him up front.

If we take Sheff Utd (A) in the Champo away (when he was sent off inside 20 mins) then that was definitely Coady's worst performance under Nuno, he got a lot wrong. Meh, write it off.

I certainly don't take yesterday as an indicator that we're in for a long, tough season as a) there is not an earthly chance we'll be in any danger of relegation, b) we actually matched them for 45 minutes, we had the better chances and c) it's Liverpool who've won the Premier League, Champions League and World Club Cup inside the last 18 months or so.

Two big frustrations were not really getting at Williams after we managed to put him on a yellow inside 90 seconds and not testing Kelleher's nerves - he looks pretty good, but you'd like to think we'd create some danger off one set piece. We didn't, these short corners are shite and Neves' delivery/shooting has gone to pot lately.

But to me it was a free hit, especially after beating Arsenal. I'm not that bothered. 0-4 doesn't look great but it's not a West Ham 0-4 where we got literally nothing right, bar Rui making some good saves.

Sorry if this is all old ground, not had much of a chance to post since last night.

Tyldesley kept confusing Boly, Semedo and Traore which could just be a bit of lazy racism was it not for the fact he then went on to get Moutinho and Neves mixed up. At that point I just decided he was crap and should retire.

I know I've mentioned it a couple of times already (but it did rile me) but when he was appealing for the penalty for Liverpool as if he were in the box as well it was embarrassing, I know in a Liverpool Wolves game its safe ground to favour the home team but he was full on biased to the point where Ally McCoist felt obliged say something good about us to try and keep some kind of balance.

ps. The Stockley Park skit what the f#ck ???

Well if anyone else had the pleasure of watching the warm ups, I’m not sure Neves or Donck hit the target in about 6 attempts between them and some of Neves’ weren’t even close. He hit the target against Leicester and Schmeichel made a good save (I’ll go all Roy Keane and say I expect my GK to save that), but other than that I honestly can’t remember him making a GK work and according to the stats he’s had a lot of shots.

I did see them. One class chip by Joao (who never ever shoots in a real game) but we didn't look great otherwise.

Ruben needs to sort it out, it's a big part of his game, we need a few from him a season, especially as Adama never looks like scoring ever again.

I’d say he commentated like it was an England game and treated Wolves like we were the foreign side. Basically sucking up to the bigger fan base watching.

He did previously work for Radio City in Liverpool (along with fellow TWF favourite Richard Keys) so he's always been slightly biased that way. But crikey.

"That's a penalty surely" when Salah evidently just fell over was ridiculous. As well as his listing of Liverpool players who'd not lost a league game at Anfield. Aye Clive, it's been nearly four years, not all these players have been here for four years. I get it.

I don't mind McCoist at all.

One bit of nit picking which i noticed last night, was they had a free kick at least 35 yards out central. Why put a wall up ? no player should beat a keeper from that distance given full view of the shot. The wall imo helps the taker as the keeper doesn't get a great view plus the fact that a deflection make any save more difficult.

Quite like McCoist just about the right amount of serious critique and silly humourous stuff.......came in a few times to try save Tyldesly from himself
