Live Match Discussion 2024/25

Those aren't pumps, pumps in an English context are more like what would now be called plimsolls I think.
Also when I was a kid, farts were referred to as pumps.
Oh yeah, I know those sneakers aren’t proper pumps, even if “plimsoll” didn’t help at all! 😅

I’ll be honest, I *hate* pumps for farts. Not for any particular reason. Just. Ew.

Farts was too 'naughty' in our house, 'trumps' hadn't been coined then.
I've just realised we've had a million pages of pumps/farts/sex/footwear dialogue in the live match thread! Apologies to everyone for my part in that.

I can see the perspective nevertheless the nonsense with sectarian behaviour isn’t exclusive to just Glasgow the Edinburgh Derby runs along similar lines although not as severe as does the Dundee Derby.
Although Scousers will deny it, and the lines were more blurred then Scotland, pre world war 2 the Merseyside Derby was part of the same shit.

Easy for me to say as I started it, but the ridiculous tangents we go on from time to time are some of my favorite things about this place.

As a Grammar School boy I prefer “clever”!
LOL.
As one of the kids allocated to Wednesfield High soon after Wednesfield Grammar and March End merged were we thicker at the age of 10/11 than our counterparts a few years earlier? ;-)

Probably, if you have to ask the question! 😂

Good riposte.
I was just taking the piss out of people who actually believed that not having a grammar school meant that kids weren't as bright. A lecturer on my teaching degree course at Lancaster said as much!

The 11+ was extremely flawed, just as entrance exams today are. Many kids who ”failed” it were much brighter than those who passed. There are many reasons why some passed and some failed, intelligence being just one of them. Despite having done ok from the system I’m glad it no longer widely exists.

Yep, I did well at junior school generally and found the 11+ a piece of piss, mainly as it fed into my strong points of English and logic.
Turned out not to be that useful and I spent the next 5 years struggling with school and left with 2 o levels.

Oh, for sure. Good on you for doing well and hopefully in life too.
The Dylan lecturer I referred to in Lancaster summed it up. He stated that the 11+ was at the same standard across the country. I explained to him that in Wolverhampton there was basically one for each gender plus the Municipal. Lancaster with a population about half of Wolverhampton's at the time also had one for each gender. We looked at the number of grammar school places available and it was very similar. He closed the argument by declaring that Lancaster had a higher proportion of 'brighter' kids because of the university lecturers whereas Wolverhampton only had polytechnic lecturers! LOL.
Another more recent pillock stated to me that Kent with its grammars and selection had brighter kids than counties with very few grammars.
Similar games are played by excluding kids in order to artificially boost the percentage pass rate.

I am sure you have more than fulfilled your 'potential'. Some of the brightest sparks and nicest people at Wednesfield High School weren't allowed near O or even A levels!

Unfortunately I don't think I did, just buggered around chasing the best pay I could find in less than interesting jobs.
I've no real regrets though, I've had a mostly happy life and enjoyed myself.
