Live Match Discussion 2024/25

No doubting the argument from a size of club perspective, geographically it's less of an issue than ever before too as Southern based teams mainly fly to Northern games now anyway so it's only another 20 or 30 mins on the plane. There was a point where it was at least feasible from a sporting context, but now they are both so far behind you'd need to give them at least a 2 year relegation exemption whilst they catch up financially which nobody other than the Sky 6 would vote for.
It’s equally feasible to fly in from Amsterdam or Paris to.
It’s morally bankrupt thing to do also, you’re leaving the rest of Scotland without its final real catchment in its own league. Secondly in England you’re going to have to bump not just 2 clubs but a domino effect of clubs to accommodate.
Barcelona and Real have fallen on a similar problem with just higher quality.

Every survey I've seen from other Scottish fans is they'd be happy for them to go, makes the league more competitive and they don't have to put up with the bullshit the away fans bring, not sure that's the view of the clubs themselves though given the financial hit.

It is different to Amsterdam or Paris as Scotland is part of Britian in the same way Wales is and we have 4 of their clubs in the football league. I'm not advocating it I wouldn't want them for the same reason the rest of Scotland doesn't, plus I find the sectarianism on both sides nauseating.

The sky 6 need to keep themselves where they are and already have the likes of Newcastle and Villa trying to step into their territory. They wouldn’t want another 2 clubs competing for their riches and the commercial uplift from bringing the Glasgow clubs to the party wouldn’t be anything substantial to even consider it.

Pumped is very Scottish, as I lived their 14 years has Scottish wife and obviously extended family, as well as friends of both sides, I do use a Lot of Scottish words alongside many Black Country Words and strong accent, which always cause much Merriement from the many Scots in the bar.

You do look too much into stuff, again Good Guys is used a lot over here in Spain, in the differing leagues, as well as among Footie fans.
For what it’s worth, “other people say it” is a really poor defense.

Would someone tell me what it actually means in this context so we can move on?
It's slang for sex i.e. getting pumped. It's used in sports to mean beaten by a big scoreline.

It's mainly a Northern/Scottish saying.

As with most things, it depends on the context.
Pumped can relate to sexual activity.
Pumped can also mean "I farted" (I pumped, or I did a pump)
Pumped can also mean I was outclassed by the opposition.

I can see the perspective nevertheless the nonsense with sectarian behaviour isn’t exclusive to just Glasgow the Edinburgh Derby runs along similar lines although not as severe as does the Dundee Derby.

Yeah, I feel like my comment was fair, then. Obviously can't force anyone not to use it (in a sport context, I'm not trying to rip "pumped" from the lexicon altogether) but hey ho, it brings up awful memories so I'll always ask.

"Pumped" as fart is a new one for me!

Carry on, all, I've said everything I feel I should/can.

The fart one is from the German "pumpern"

Pumpernickel loosely means Fart Goblin.

Did you American folk know that you can wear pumps @Alan ?
We've got that one, yeah, although I don't think I know what they actually are.

As a kid we had these awful things we called pumps:

Bad shoes.

Those aren't pumps, pumps in an English context are more like what would now be called plimsolls I think.
Also when I was a kid, farts were referred to as pumps.
