Live Match Discussion 2016/17

Man United v Fenerbahçe is FREE to air on freeview channel 59 tonight apparently, for all those without BT Sport.

Saints absolutely battering Inter. All over them.

Only been able to watch since half time but they look really unbalanced tonight, just no shape in midfield at all and the front 3 offering nothing.

Why is Austin hanging out on the left with Rodriguez in the middle?!

They did that on Sunday against Burnley but with Redmond in the middle rather than J-Rod. Worked quite well but didn't really suit Austin (he scored two in the end mind)

There seemed to be a lot more movement Sunday though, Redmond didn't just stay wide and Tadic popped up on either flank so it gave Austin chance to get inside where he does his best work. Their performance this half has just been incredibly flat.

How has Austin not scored that?!

No idea how they haven't at least drawn this.

25 minutes in and Manchester United have had most of the possession, but have created very little, and still no shot on target.

A fine effort but they went down in the end.

So close it was there for them for a while, 1 up and then hit the post and containing Zenit pretty easily.

Ran out of steam in the last 20 mins, but when you get part-time players, playing their 7th game in 20 days* (Zenit played 2 in the same period), including essentially a title decider v Cork and an FAI Cup semi final and replay, then common sense will tell you that it will take its toll especially against one of the favourites. Hopefully they can win the league on Sunday and then can rest and have a decent crack at the rest of the competition.

* Seeing as how their run has been the most positive news the LOI has ever had, you would expect the FAI would have taken steps to help their fixture congestion, but no Mr fucking €350K and his lackeys didnt have the fucking wit to do that.

I was sort of half arsed watching most of the second half, they actually knocked the ball round very well for the most part, looked a pretty accomplished side rather than just a bunch of lads busting a gut for the big occasion but was just lacking that bit of something individually to make something happen when in a decent situation. Hardly surprising really given they're part timers, you'd expect a side as established as Zenit to have their players far fitter and sharper even without the difference in fixtures, so it was little wonder they were getting the better of individual battles when it came to it, then as you say they just ran out of steam late on and couldn't even rely on their collective ability to hold out then.

We've bemoaned our fair share of poor defending, but fuck me did anyone see Bailly's "effort" (and I use that word quite wrongly) to defend that led to the goal against Man Utd last night? May as well have just worn a t-shirt that said "can't be arsed".

Burton again proving that they are not in the championship just to make up the numbers.
