Interesting to see the ref overrule an offside flag at the weekend in the Bolton vs Watford game. Don't know if you have seen it but Bolton had the ball around 25 yards out and the ball was passed forward in the general direction of Le Fondre who was offside. Flag goes up. However he left it alone completely - turns out the pass wasn't really aimed at him but the guy overlapping on the right, he crosses it and Clough scores. Watford went crazy as they had all stopped when the flag went up but it looked the right decision to me and good refereeing.

Yes I saw it and I agree with you, it was good refereeing, though the assistant was also correct to flag.

As I said, if it had been a Wolves player every Wolves fan except you would have been screaming for a pen.

Yes it would have been except me. It's not a penalty at all, stupid challenge but that doesn't mean a pen. He misses Rooney who goes past him and then goes down like he was shot in the back.

Yes Rooney has to get out of the way but he doesn't have to fall to the floor at all, he collapses his legs with no touch at all. He's English though so he doesn't dive.

It is a dive. The goalkeeper is stupid, but it's a dive. Fair play to Kevin Kilbane for saying it while Neville and Hodgson try to make excuses.

I did not think it was a penalty, but the goalkeeper only has himself to blame.

If it had happened at Molineux and I'd got one look at it at full speed - possibly from nearly 100 yards away as well if it happened to be at the South Bank end - then I almost certainly would have been screaming for a penalty. However I wouldn't then say it wasn't a dive after I watched it back on TV later.

And bullshit excuses as well. Hodgson has to probably but Neville is just being a cock and backing him up because it's Wayne Rooney.

Perhaps there should be retrospective bookings/bans for diving when viewed by an independent referee panel...

I don't think I've said it wasn't a dive.

Blatant dive, and I love Wayne Rooney. Stupid goalkeeping but he's not touched him, that shouldn't have been a penalty.

For me a definite penalty, but a dive if that makes sense!

No it doesn't. Once he doesn't touch him and Rooney is able to hurdle him and stay on his feet which he is then it's not a pen. It's a blatant dive even allowing for a shit challenge.

It's a reckless challenge. I wasn't aware you had to make contact for it to be a foul?

The thing for me is Rooney gets past the keeper and then dives, which isn't a foul if the case IMO
