Fergie refereing ffs

Kyel Reid knocking a simple ball down the line straight out of play. Must be taking inspiration from there being a Mark Rankine Suite at Deepdale.

The laws of the game state that a player in an offside position should only be penalised if he is involved in active play by

Interfering with play.

Interfering with an opponent or

Gains an advantage by being in that position.

IMO he was interfering with play..covering the ball and jumping out of the line at the last second..

Exactly, the fact that he has to move out of the way and has affected the goalkeeper means he is offside. He doesn't have to be in his eye line.

had I been officiating and given offside, would you of marked me down?? ;)

Rocks for brains, goalkeeper. What a ridiculous challenge.

Don't know what the keeper is doing but it's a dive. He's missed him and then collapsed.

Recless challenge, was always gonna be a pen but rooney dived over hus leg..didnt hit him but anyway

Week in week out they are making the same mistake.

1) if you don't come off your line he probably isn't even going to get a shot off.

2) once you come out, if he is that far away from goal and going the wrong way don't make s challenge!

If that was a foreign player, there would be uproar about how they bring cheating into our game. Yes it's a shit challenge from the keeper but it's still a dive.

It is a dive, no doubt. Deserves to be a penalty just for stupidity though.

If it had been Afobe or Dicko it would have been a stonewaller.

Agreed..not agreeing with trev..just to be clear

No, I would have expected you to flag. The problem the assistant had is that he obviously knew Rooney was in an offside position, but he would not have known how close the ball went to Rooney. So the flag should have gone up and the referee would then have to decide if Rooney was interfering with play. He was interfering with play as he had to move his body so that the ball did not touch him, and he was also interfering with an opponent as he was clearly in the eyeline of the goalkeeper. I would say that the goal should have been disallowed.

Interesting to see the ref overrule an offside flag at the weekend in the Bolton vs Watford game. Don't know if you have seen it but Bolton had the ball around 25 yards out and the ball was passed forward in the general direction of Le Fondre who was offside. Flag goes up. However he left it alone completely - turns out the pass wasn't really aimed at him but the guy overlapping on the right, he crosses it and Clough scores. Watford went crazy as they had all stopped when the flag went up but it looked the right decision to me and good refereeing.
