LIVE! Match discussion 2014/15

Neither Sutton vs Coventry nor Wrexham vs Arsenal were shown live in the UK.

While the BBC and indeed all broadcasters have a remit to feature a decent cross section of teams, they aren't immune to the need to preserve viewing figures. Bradford vs Fulham would have attracted virtually no neutral interest, it would have been a shocking pick. A mid-table League One team vs a poor Championship team on a terrible pitch, roll up. Tough on Bradford I suppose, but that's the way it goes.

Thank you for proving my memory was right on the Wrexham game. I am pretty sure that I remember it being on the radio on the Saturday afternoon as I was out with my parents and we got back into the car and put the radio on just before the Mickey Thomas freekick went in, which would have meant Saturday 3pm back in those days.

I guess youre right but as much as i like to see quality i like to see a lesser team fighting and putting 100% effort against a better team..much like wimbledon-liverpool earlier this year..it is another dimension of football

Or you could end up showing West Brom vs Gateshead and it's a complete washout.

Yeah..i prefer when the lower team plays at home

To be fair, though you take that chance with any game.

In reality Warrington should have been put to bed, like Albion did with Gateshead, when they were on TV but they won.

Of course, it must surely be another factor in broadcasters' decisions though. A one sided battering isn't really helpful to anyone.

Just to go back to Sutton for a minute, when they beat Coventry their next game vs Norwich was also not televised either. Nor were any of Kidderminster's games when they made the Fifth Round around 1993/4 as I recall. I'm not really sure why this Bradford thing has created such a storm as a) it clearly isn't a new thing and b) there are fairly clear reasons why they weren't picked this time.

I'm not going to shed too many tears about them losing revenue either given that they made the League Cup final a couple of years ago, will have got 40% of the ticket money from the game at Stamford Bridge and just had their biggest home gate in 25 years or so.

Di Maria has been terrible every time I've seen him recently - poor control, terrible passing and zero end product

TV coverage was lot different back in the late 80's / early 90's though. A game on TV was a weekly treat rather than the norm. Its a storm because something has to fill the news and this was a perfect filler.

Anyone slating the BBC should realise this puts them on the same side of the argument as Richard Keys and swiftly re-assess their position...

On this game - Van Gaal's football is truly abject. They're a bit like us at our very worst going forward - when we're at our most ponderous and least creative, but without any excuse for being that way, and they're like it all the time.

His Holland team were no better, it's just that a draw in tournament football isn't that bad a result.

1-0 PNE. United can't complain.

De Gea should be saving that but he has won them loads of games on his own this season.

great through ball by Davies but De Gea should have saved it

Hilarious.

I hope they sack the stubborn prick in the morning. Bring your dossier then.
