Let's talk about Nuno....

I honestly don’t know how they are getting away with it. Selling Lukaku for £80M+ gives you a lot of wiggle room though.

I think they were in a lot of trouble with it but Covid has bailed them out this year. Still probably going to have to sell or have a year off to comply.
Hope so, can’t carry on overpaying for overrated players.

They have a new stadium to pay for too.

The amount they've written off on players is just mental. Walcott, Bolasie, Tosun, Niasse, Schneiderlin, Klaassen, I'm maybe missing some too. Let alone some of the dreck they still own.

Checking wiki and other sources their Nett spend over the last 5 years is £55m/season compared to ours at £37m and obviously we were In the championship for a couple of those and their turnover will me much higher over that period.

They’ve also managed to recoup decent money for dross. Klaasen they got decent money back for and decent fees for Delofeu, Funes Mori, Vlasic, Barkley, Lookman, Cleverley keep the books ticking over added to big sales of Gueye, Lukaku and Stones.

So it’s not actually as bad as it looks from the outside when you dig deeper.

They made a £12m loss on Klaassen inside 12 months. I would not call that decent!

I admire your optimism, young man.

Having an actual pre-season, even in a tournament year will help a lot compared to last season. And as we aren't in Europe, it will basically be like when we got promoted. From a physical point of view, I don't think there will be any excuses come the start of next season

I mean we’ve had decades of signing players for big fees (relatively speaking) who flop and we Can’t even give away. Prince, Miranda, Gladon, Siggy, Mason, Clarke, Margreitter, Johnson, O’Hara, Doumbia, Boukari, Mouyokolo (my word going back through wiki is grim), so getting half your money back if good business!

If you are referring to Cutrone, all we are getting for him is a series of decreasing loan fees until we pay him off with 6 months of his contract left

Agreed. This season is a free pass, but no excuses next season - we'll have a full pre-season to implement four at the back and sign the players required for it.

Hence why I’d be very happy If we got £8m!

I wouldn't say free pass because there's still plenty of mistakes that have been made across the board, but I still back Nuno to sort it out (he gradually has IMO since the West Brom defeat) with a full pre-season, and a re-organisaton of the squad.

As i posted elsewhere, we have a number of fringe players, some we own, others on loan. Surely time to give these guys a chance so we know either to keep/sign them, or let go. We need to be having a bench who can come on and make a difference next season.

Last night puts me back on the long term worried list. He wants to play 4231, but defensively the players don't look any more comfortable playing it than they did the first time they tried. It would be easy to say that we were missing Boly and Jonny, but if we are being honest the issues didn't really lie there.

For all the talk of it being a big Summer recruitment wise, it's probably even bigger from a coaching perspective. Massive pre season if 4 at the back is the future and although it'll be longer than last years 2 days there are only 5 weeks between the Euros finishing and the PL starting. There's a reasonable chance of Neto, Rui, Moutinho, Coady, Neves and Donck being involved at the end. Tack on a couple of weeks holiday and that leaves 3

I think, although the intentions were good, Nuno's decision making, transfer business and rethinking of our style last pre-season have brewed a bit of a mini-existential crisis for us. There seems so much to sort out and we don't really look any closer to answers than we did months ago

Potentially true - but the loan fees will be adding up, so if we were to get a fee of, say, £8m, then we'd be a lot closer to breaking even than the pure headline figures would show.

And of course, whilst he's on loan we're not paying 100% of his wages either, so that's money staying in the club too which you can put against a loss in transfer fee.

Surely any wage contribution is just offsetting his Wolves wage not the transfer fee, no loan club is going to pay him over and above what he earns through his original contract with the excess coming to Wolves.

You can’t claim it a profit/success not having to pay wages for a player not at your club and as a result zero use to you . Him having his wages covered (big assumption it’s 100%) makes it less shit, but it’s still shit.

Same as we don’t count not having to pay Jota’s wages as additional profit on the transfer fee.

So what happens now?

I don't believe that we were remotely in the relegation conversation, but I'd imagine for all but the weirdos that fear is gone now.

So now what? We've got seven games left, what do you want him to do in terms of approach? How disappointed will you be if we just spend the next 7 games bumbling from game to game? Or are you writing it all off and giving a clean slate in the Summer?

For me, and I feel like I've been saying it for months, but surely to fuck now we can lose the pragmatism for the rest of the season. We were told this season would be a transition to a new style - dominating possession more, creating more chances - but other than the odd half an hour here and there, we can all agree that it's been turgid. Then that turgid has been excused with him having to keep us in the division, but that excuse has gone now.

For me, he's got to decide on his primary system and style, stick to it, home it, and decide who can do it. We've got some good footballers, so let them play good football. Take the opportunity of 7 inconsequential games, and good will in the bank, and actually try the transition that has been talked about since September. Anything else is a fucking waste of a season
