Leicester (A) build up thread

The first goal yes Doherty was at fault for the tackle for the free kick, but we were so unlucky as Boly got a great header in but sadly it pinged back down to Richarlson. So unlucky.

It was a shit header.

Can't be much good if you can't work our the start of a set of circumstances then. I'd sack you're ass.

The first event isn't always the most significant in the outcome even if it does dictate the original chain of events, you should have mitigation strategy to cover mistakes and events which are out of your control, it's Boly's job to defend situations like that however they come about, he can't simply hold his hands up and say 'well if that beardy cunt doesn't foul him then I don't have to make that header do I?'

I wouldn't blame Doc for the 2nd goal but Nuno did. Proper bollocked him and when Vinagre started to get ready I presume he would be on for Doc

Will not be long before Jonny comes over to the right to replace Doherty.

It is for the first goal. No free kick, no goal.

I don't disagree that when it is given that Boly should do better with his header as I have said twice now.

Again for the second goal, if Baines doesn't have the time to pas the ball through Doc's legs then no goal is scored.

Sadly we are going to get more of the same with that right hand side, lets face it Doherty is going to be murdered a fair few times this season and Nuno will have to act.

Cav does a lot more defensively than Helder, although it shouldn't come to that, we should be able to trust whoever is at RWB.

People can delude themselves that Matt Doherty is an acceptable first choice option in the Premier League if they like, but he isn't. I don't expect him to last long there.

Think it's quite obvious we were trying to upgrade him. Doherty would be alright as a squad player/back up, but certainly not as first choice. Still, we all have to tip the cap to him for making the absolute most of his (limited) skillset. If someone had told me 5 x years ago that Matt Doherty will be starting in the PL on the opening day of the season, I'd have laughed in your face.

Vinagre made a lot of runs after coming off the bench on Saturday, which were ignored. It almost felt a couple of times that we didn't trust him or were reluctant to give him the ball, which I thought was odd. He wasn't tested defensively a great deal either, so I don't think Nuno will chuck him in for Doherty (and moving Jonny across) just yet.

In fact, I'm almost certain we'll see the same starting 11 v Leicester. We might make a few changes v City as nothing is expected of us there anyway.

If we're going on sliding scales of blame then their first goal starts with Jonny who gave the ball away with the cross-field pass.

Nope. See Mark's explanation on cause and effect. Doherty's foul is the first link in that chain as Jonny's pass did not force Doherty into making the foul.

If we're doing a sliding scale, can we blame Steve Morgan for appointing Dean Saunders hence relegating us to League 1?

What a pointless waste of time. Why bother playing the blame game?

Not quite true on your first error = all of the blame method though is it?

What if Doherty backs out of that challenge with Richarlison and he goes on a mazy run and puts one in the top corner, does Doherty still cop the flack for not putting a foot in? After all, Richarlison wouldn't have been able to go on that run and do whatever else he ends up doing if only Matt had the balls to stick a foot in at the start of the move.

What part of the free kick not being given isn't the start of the first goal?

Interesting thoughts Mark, apart from the fact it didn't happen.

I don't think it is all Doc's fault but it was a really stupid foul IMO, not unlucky as Slink reckoned. Boly should do better with his header too. And it was a crap pass by Jonny that put us in trouble in the first place. It just shows there is a lot smaller margin for error, especially against better sides like Everton. The second goal is the same, individual errors from Doc, Ruben and Coady (although have to give credit to a very good finish too).

Think we will have learned a lot from this game anyway and play with more confidence at Leicester. Even Nuno seemed to think we were a bit hesitant. We have some young/inexperienced players though and I think they will quickly grow once they realise they are more than good enough at this level. Costa and Jota took a bit of flak after the game for their performances (slightly unfair I felt) but they are two fantastic talents that will be more than good enough.
