Leicester 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

His price tag is totally immaterial. You absolutely cannot hold it against him.

You’d have to be a bit of an idiot to think of him as anything other than an 18 year old with massive potential tbh.
Like I say, not who he is, what he is. For where we are currently at £35m comes with expectation which comes above potential or a project. Not his fault, not a criticism of him and not someone I've personally criticised.

You have already conceded it was shite in your earlier posts. But your "keep the faith" mantra and rose tinted glasses is ignoring the blindingly obvious in my opinion, in that we may be evolving but that is not a positive thing so far this season and it bloody well needs to be. If you evolve into a worse team who scores less goals and creates less chances that cannot be a good thing. Our first half concessions are beyond a joke. Its becoming a bad habit and frustrating to fans,as we have shown that we get rewards when we start fast..With such a low XG the odds are stacked against us getting back into games when we fall behind and in 2020 our record when going behind is abysmal. So its important to score first and therefore important to start on the front foot surely? If you are around your own box all the time it gioves VAR and twats like Taylor , Attwell and Dean the opportunity to give decisions that are harsh and they have shown they will take the opprtunity with glee.

As I have not predicted us to finish above 7th in this league ever your top three comment is puzzling. I put us lower than you bar saying I thought we could get into europe if we had a good run, And we did.

I must also be missing something with Fabio. He has made a couple of decent runs off the ball and a couple of nice touches but colour me underwhelmed at the moment,. He cost more than Raul. We are not city. We cant pay thet much for potential when we dont have adequate back up for Coady or Raul and not expect armchair keyboard cwarriors like me not to pop up and winge when a 35m player looks like a lost schoolboy.

Now on to crossing. Until the enigma that its Traore came on we could not cross a road. RAN and Semedo and Neto all tried and they were awful and they were also trying to pick out one player in the box.

Good side or not , Leicester didnt have too much trouble keeping us at arms length today and thats a worry.
We're five points off top and ten away from the bottom three.

Pardon me if the alarm bells seem extraordinarily melodramatic.

We know, if he had demanded that money then that would be different , but other people decided it and it's ludicrous to hold it against him.

Nonsense

He is a record signing at a premier club. He will be judged accordingly. Especially when we sold our second top scorer in the same window regardless of whether that was a good or bad decision. I say that because we needed boosts that could have been a better short to medium term investment of the 35m. Now Fabio could be Messi 2 in 2022 and thats great but we need a bit more attacking and goals wise in 2020 thanks very much.

Sorry mate, but Paul says the table doesn't mean anything at this stage ;)

Fuck him off back to Portugal, then. And Adama, and Neves, and anyone else who hasn't scored yet this season.

And Semedo, too, while we're at it. Go back to the days of 3m signings so we can never accuse any player of being overvalued.

... just after you accuse Cyber of being 'extraordinarily melodramatic'...

now who is overeacting?

In all seriousness though Alan, nobody expects us to win the league or be in the bottom three, but in terms of challenging for a Europa spot (which would surely be our aim) or thereabouts, being so unconvincing going forward will end up biting us on the arse sooner rather than later and needs addressing?

Of course it does, and as you've probably seen, I am decrying our inability to break down teams that play 3 at the back quite regularly.

It is the whiplash nature of the reactions to a match in which we weren't actually that poor that rankles me. We held one of the better attacking sides in the league to one (ONE!) half chance in the entirety of the match.

Not every loss is the end of the world or spells doom for the ambitions of the club.

We've had three or four decent opportunities today, albeit all in the second half. You aren't going to get too many more against a team who are as strong and in form as Leicester are - they are top of the league for a reason!

I don't want to dress it up as a fantastic show today because it really wasn't, we were so poor in possession in the first half and while I thought we deserved something out of the game and we were pretty good after the break, it still wasn't fantastic.

I am a bit perplexed at how Vitinha is the missing man at the moment, he's looked in the very limited bits we've seen like he can offer us something a bit different from midfield, someone who can actually turn and go with the ball. I suppose Nuno sees them every day in training but we don't need all of Saiss, Otasowie and Marçal on the bench (or Hoever sometimes - not sure where he was today), it's overkill.

Our goals for column is pretty anemic, especially considering our opponents so far have been "easier"

Well, I haven't said it's the end of the world, and I know we can defend, the point is that defensiveness isn't balanced out by us being able to do anything with the ball most of the time.

I don't want us to have to get a clean sheet to have any chance of a win.

This is perhaps the most legitimate concern we should have. When Raul is off the pace, like today, our attack totally falls apart. We have to figure out some way to support him better, especially when he's being marked by two CBs and a midfielder. I'm not sure what the answer is for that, but there has to be one.

Its not a question of losing its how you lose.

We were powderpuff today
We didnt turn up at West Ham
We gave City everything for an hour and lost
We let an awful goal in v Newcastle
We had a miss of the season to thank for beating Fulham
We got the worlds biggest deflection to beat Leeds

We were good against Palace and Sheffield United particularly at the start. So, 8 games 2 good performances 3 ok perfromances and 3 poor performances so far this season the best games involved starting fast. If thats how we are doing well , scoring first and protecting it more often than not am I the only one who gets thoroughly frustrated when we revert to dullball and lose games?

Sorry mate, that’s rubbish - the club have been really clear that he’s not coming in to start every game like a normal record signing would, he’s a massive prospect we wanted enough to pay big money for, who we can develop for the future, who can also be cover for Raul now.

you can’t just see the price tag - all that shows is that his old club didn’t really want to sell him, but we really wanted to buy him.

he’s a “generational talent” - but he’s also an inexperienced 18 year old in a new country playing a new system. Expecting him to be super amazing already is insane.

Something positive I haven't seen shouted out yet: Semedo's crossing is absolutely magnificent. He put in two or three immaculate balls in the second half that deserved better finishes than they got.

Funnily enough all of our wins have been to nil since Spurs away, which was pre-lockdown. It hadn't really occurred to me before.
