Also in the hypothetical world, if the score is 0-0 i don't think RAN finds himself as exposed as he did when he gave away the penalty. So no penalty, and we go in 0-0 like at Leeds and then 2nd half they are there for the taking.

For all the talk of XG, what was Leicester's other than their penalties?

I think that's stretching a bit. It was a simple ball over the top. RAN wasn't halfway up the pitch struggling to get back. His position was fine.

Their xG without the penalties was the same as ours. Around 0.5.

Well that’s why I said it was both hypothetical and irrelevant.

Given the pattern of the game didn’t remotely change then there’s a strong chance it could have! He wasn’t exposed, he messed up an interception (albeit a difficult ball to deal with) and then puts himself in a situation where he then feels he has to make up for it. Nothing to do with being exposed, just inexperienced.

I don't agree, i don't think our defensive line would have been as high up the pitch if the score was still 0-0, so the ball either doesn't get played, or Kilman (who i'd imagine would be in that area if we are deeper) heads it away. It's extremely rare to see a Wolves defender without cover.

Regardless of xG, we can't shy away from our obvious problem creating chances and scoring goals. Leicester have more than double our goal tally, and they've let in the same amount too.

The frustrations about Sunday mainly stem from looking thoroughly unconvincing when we had the ball, which improved in the second half.

We don't let in many goals primarily because we are a defensive team, a mindset that doesn't do us any favours at the other end of the pitch

Looking at it again, Kilman is actually a few yards ahead of Coady, RAN and Boly, perhaps if he'd been deeper he'd have been able to help RAN out. It's odd that Kilman is so far ahead of RAN in this situation regardless of the score that's probably what invited the ball.

Jonny Evans had the ball in his own half, we put no pressure on the ball (this is normal), the defensive line was where it normally is. I know we like to park the bus but we’re not going to have it camped on the edge of the area with the ball in their half!

Yeah i agree having watched it again.

RAN was left exposed though, as the still shows, Kilman had gone walkabout for some reason, that was just poor on Kilman's part (which was compounded by RAN's failure to deal with it)rather than it being down to the score i now think.

I assume it's Praet in the orange boots near the centre of the picture, presumably he's made a movement towards the ball that's tempted Kilman out of position slightly or if he was already sat in that space maybe Kilman gambled on going towards him as Evans plays the pass, assuming him to be the target, only to be cut out with a longer ball over his head.

Attacking players dropping narrow and deeper dragging defenders out, creating space for the WB to attack, exposing a young inexperienced WBs defensive frailties.

I thought we performed very well against Palace and Sheff Utd. Like all teams in the PL there will be good and bad, we are only a few weeks removed from Liverpool being humped by Villa and Leicester rinsing Citeh on their own patch.

Not wishing to get into another debate but youre comparing apples and oranges. Those two teams have been the best teams by a mile since we were promoted and both have had a very occasional off day. For us we have had quite a lot of slow starts and off first halves since lockdown. You cite the two performances where we came out of the blocks quickly and as a result reaped a reward.

It's not since lockdown though, we have consistently played more attacking in the 2nd half than the first against the stronger teams since we were promoted, certainly since the the start of last season, it is by design to contain in the first half and attack more in the second, the problem is it all goes to shit if we do actually concede in the first.

Nuno has stated he wants to make us less predictable, but we're still starting slowly and still over-reliant on our wing-backs.

I would imagine those characteristics will become less dominant as the season goes on.
