Leicester 1-0 Wolves: Verdict Thread

Unless your Tredman and betting on five own goals per game. Good luck with that.

Newcastle didn't against us, did they. They didn't even have a proper shot that wasn't deflected until they scored in literally the last minute. xG is a nice tool at times, it's no definitive measure of anything though.

You tell me - are we are a really good (ie top 3/4/5) team who underperform consistently, which is what all your posts seem to indicate, or are we not a very good team who need a fair bit of work? There isn't an inbetween here. It's one or the other.

You're right on one thing, you fucking well are hard work. It's you who's dredged up two threads today days after the game to say how wank we are.

We are a mid table side in transition who don't create enough chances. We are, however capable of much more if we play to our strengths . we currently don't. See about 50 posts on the ditchwater thread.

So if we're a midtable team then stop expecting we beat absolutely everybody, especially by bizarre criteria like "we beat Man City last season so we should do it again or we've gone backwards".

If you think we're a midtable team then surely you expect we win a fair bit and lose a fair bit.

Good example when we did create chances and ticked it up and then let in a shocker. Its why you need to create and take chances. We do not create enough and what we do create we waste too often. I m h o. For what its worth.

I repeat. Its not about losing its how you lose. The worst goals for outside the bottom four and the worst xg outside the bottom four is evidence enough for me thanks.

I'd love to know what enjoyment you get out of watching Wolves, it doesn't seem to be very much.

7th, 7th and despite not playing that well so far (which I'll happily say, other than bits here and there), top half now this season. Nope, we're wank, moan moan moan moan moan.

That was not a terrible performance on Sunday, I don't care what you say. For a lot of the game we had Leicester pinned back. They're top of the league. They just beat Braga 4-0 and we know they're a decent side. I don't get it, really. How you can simultaneously be ultra negative about the team you're supposed to support and yet we should also beat everyone. It doesn't make any sense at all.

You chose to point ire my way. We are not as good as either of the last two seasons. We are creating fewer chances. We are scoring fewer goals. We are moving the ball slower. We are starting slower. We are setting up not to concede and are incapable of pulling back a deficit which was a strength before. We deserved nothing on Sunday as we barely laid a glove on them. We have not won a game when we conceded since spurs in early 2020. Rui saving a penalty is equalled by Kasper's worldly and the net result is zero points. We spent a lot of money in the window but don't look a better side.

Now if that's negative, well hands up. I also pegged us as eighth last year so where you get this we should be top three nonsense from I don't know. What pisses me off is we show what we can do in flashes against palace and Sheff u but fail to replicate that in other matches, and that's not always down to the opposition.

People have said the xP is “bloody awful” - not the team (so let’s not start putting words in mouths, eh?)

0.01 in the first half. I mean, if you’re suggesting anything other than it being awful, you need to go and get some fresh air.

As a side note, I’ve seen xP used as a tool to defend a poor performance far more than the other way around. So I don’t think people can cry about it now it’s being used to call out a below par half. Works both ways.

Tell you what, find one post from one person saying the first half was ok and then we can have that discussion.

So you'll be happy enough with a point against Southampton then, as they're better than us at the moment and in your eyes we aren't a good team.

Excellent, look forward to you posting with that mindset when we get round to it rather than us being AC Milan 1994 who beat every team on earth with one hand behind their back.

this debate seems to have become a bit binary cyber, which might be what gets a reaction.
I don't think we're not as good as previous years, nor are we starting slower.
we're a mid table team, playing in one of the toughest leagues in the world.
As we're not members of the big 6 yet, realistically we're going to lose some games we could/should win, and vice versa.
we did lay a glove on leicester - as well as the worldie save, schmeical also saved from neto's shot, and fofana's intervention also prevented a guilt edged chance.
Rui tipped over vardys cross/shot, but that aside only had the pens to deal with.
It was a pretty even game over the 90 mins.

I’m not really sure what the debate is, then.
What do you mean, you're not sure what it is?

You literally made something up, as no-one said anything otherwise. Aye, we were shite first half. Lucky to get nil. Could have been 2-0 down very easily, even if the one decision was a joke.

You don't think we were ok second half? Given the relative strength of the two teams?

Because if not, I think that like Cyber, you have a very warped sense of how good Wolves actually are.

Who the hell is commenting about the second half? We are in agreement that it was an even second half , although I will still bemoan shots on target. This whole debate is about how our slow starts and lack of attempts on target especially in the first half of games has cost us. Last year we were the best team in the league at getting something having come from behind. Since March we are now the worst I believe ( certainly it was mentioned in the commentary) and for the life of me I cannot understand why we start so cautiously , so often , looking to keep it at 0-0 looking to defend. In the days of shite refs and VAR, inviting pressure around your own box allows for decisions to be given against you like the Newcastle free kick and the Leicester first penalty. We were fortunate not to give one against palace too.It does not take a maths genius to show that if you are not creating chances , your XG is lower and yet you are conceding the first goal then you are unlikely to get back in the game.

Please show me where I have said we are world beaters. I am usually the biggest pessimist. But I have seen enough of us in the last three seasons to know that we are currently not playing to our strengths and should be playing much ,much better. On paper our points haul in 2020 looks fine but that really does not tell the story at all.

State of this thread, seems to happen on here periodically, people with broadly the same views on a subject manage to fall out while agreeing with each other.
Almost like some are argumentative just for the sake of it.

Yep, hence my earlier post saying I didn’t know what the debate was.

If someone is on ignore on the new site then you can't even see that they've posted, so to me it looks like Deutsch had a meltdown last night, ranting at himself 😀

Essentially everyone says the same thing. We're decent, there are always areas to improve, some things aren't working as well as we'd like. Pretty much what Nuno would say, the constant need to keep improving.

A lot of this thread has been an interesting read. Can we get back to that chat about ideas, tactics, things we'd like to see, rather than just bitching and moaning at each other as a result of not really disagreeing, just having different outlooks/levels of positivity/negativity/whatever.

Could someone tell me how to put someone on ignore on this site? I'm buggered if I can work out how to do it. Thanks
