Keir Starmer at it again..

There is a column from kamikwasi in (i think) the guardian, where says Reeves is essentially clearing up the Conservative mess. Bit of a surprise.

If you close your eyes, you can almost imagine that the last 14 years never really happened.

Good news on NHS and education.

3bn for Ukraine but 800m for homelessness is very disappointing.

Nothing on climate change which is really worrying.

Eh? Their £300 fuel payment loss means they can't now be sailing round the world, and they need to go back to work to cover it? Surely they wouldn't be using that fuel allowance to heat their home while they're on the high seas

The fuck man. Surely as you're writing that you must think to yourself "erm, does this really give the message I'm told to give, and is this story gonna elicit empathy?"

Some great ones out there such as a single mum who earns 150k being pissed she doesn't qualify for some benefits and CGT *might* be something she has to worry about at some point in her life

I was listening to LBC whilst driving around today and some poor farmer couldn't sleep last night because he (well actually, whoever inherits his farm) may have to pay more IHT than previous on their £3.5m fortune when it passes down.

This was further made worse by the fact there are TOO MANY nurses in the NHS and they all have really good pensions.

Can someone help me understand the farmer situation? Using the above example, isn't he paying tax on something that he only has the theoretical worth of? The farm may be worth £3.5m, because of the land value, but unless he sells it he can't pay the tax. Isn't that the issue? Yes he'll be a rich man off the back of it, but lose the farm and potentially generations of history.

Is it the margins of farming that make it awkward? Could have massive value as an asset but you slap a big tax on inheriting it and then the next generation might never make enough money off it to cover that tax bill? Theoretically they could sell some of the land to cover the bill but then maybe that stops the farm being profitable on a smaller footprint?
