Jeremy Corbyn

Dont make me close another thread because of your behaviour, THM.
You didn't close the referendum thread through my behaviour, you closed it because someone misrepresented what I said, then had the audacity, to suggest I was the liar.
It would have been very easy to stop all the arguing on that thread. You could have just pointed out, that in the second part of my sentence, I said the Tory party and Labour party were responsible. I actually said it in the same sentence that he quoted, but didn't finish the sentence, to make it look like I was blaming the EU.

It was an easy solution, if you were a fair person, but as usual you decided to jump on my back, to fit your agenda.

If anyone cares, I shall be talking to Eleanor Smith between 11 and 12 this Saturday on Black Country Radio...

You could ask her if she is aware of the ship building chain making industry that still exists and if she is aware that that is probably what the chains represent.

Meaning and connotation are two different things.

There's a car down our road with a big sticker of that flag and when I first saw it, (without knowing the chain-making history) I did think that it looked like some kind of rightwing political thing. Let's face it, black, white and red flags hardly have the most glorious history, do they? Speaking as a non-native, I do get her point.

That has always been my thinking, SLA.

Black, white and red are also the same as anarchist flags. But at the end of the day, they are just colours. If you wanted to attach negative symbolic meaning of oppression to flag colours then you would need to go a long way to beat red, white and blue

I don't disagree, but since the flag in question isn't red, white and blue, it's not really relevant. I don't suppose I'm alone in associating red, white and black flags with aggression, but I quite possibly have missed the red white and black flags of numerous butterfly associations and trilby hat collector clubs, in which case I'm happy to adjust my opinion. :)

Maybe it's my conditioning or reading on history but I never think of good things when I see red, white and black together. Images of the Nazi flag are always the ones that spring to mind.

I wasn't overly fussed about the chains and thought they represented the industry of the region well (but can see why people think they do) and I like the symbolism of the glass cone too.

The whole BBC 'scandal' is such a pile of bollocks. Ant and Dec were paid more my ITV last year than the 96 named BBC talent combined. People earn considerably less for the BBC than they'd get commercially yet stay because they like the prestige, there comes a point though where that switches.

Hasn't he talked about a wage cap for ages? The top only being able to earn so much more than the lowest paid.

Obviously right now it's in the public eye so he is going to push it again...its what they do.

ITV isn't a public service broadcaster

No, I understand that, but surely you need to uphold a level of quality and to do that you have to pay below but getting on for the going rate, otherwise you'll end up with Franksy presenting MOTD.

Absolutely

There will never be this scrutiny again though as they will all go freelance or find a way to be paid through BBC Worldwide.

Yes, Graham Norton gets £800k for his radio show and Eurovision. His chat show is outsourced to So Productions who he owns and so doesn't show up in the figures.

Agreed. People like James Murdoch campaign to abolish the bbc, complaining that the director general is paid several hundred thousand a year, whilst staying quiet that JM gets in excess of $9.2 million a year.

This debate is not being pushed by people who have the interests of the bbc at heart.

This is shocking stuff and proves that corrupt people are rife in all parties. This guy was basically hiding a Labour Party members peadophile past to win an election. That's shameful stuff. Not a word from Corbyn or others on this and this is very important as this is covering up child abuse. You would think Labour councils in the Greater Manchester Area wouldn't let this happen again and again.

On a slightly less than important note it turns out Dianne Abbott still can't add up.

Yes but it is only Conservatives who behave like this, well according to this forum it is.
