January 2021 Transfer Window

I think you need to 'find solutions' playing players in positions in which they are most comfortable and build the formation from there. At the moment it seems to be how to get Neto, Traore and Podence all on the pitch at the same time and I'm not sure you can without looking uncomfortable elsewhere.

The potential lack of happiness, which i appreciate is something I'm only speculating on does worry me. He's voiced before he found the conditions post the first lockdown difficult, now he's spent the last 6 weeks away from his family, on his own, not being able to socialise or eat out.

The obvious way out is to go to 3-4-2-1 and get a narrow front 3 of Silva, Pod and Neto working but he seems reluctant to do this, yet this is the formation we’ve had the most success with.

3-4-3 (or variations there of) doesn’t need to be a negative formation. We just played it that way.

Even now with 4 at the back we still don’t really press, rely a lot on counter, transition and individual brilliance. We don’t really “work a chance”.

So the biggest issue for goals is probably the way we play rather than in what formation. Nuno isn’t a high press manager, and I don’t know if that will ever change. Even today against an average opponent we were willing to let them have the ball (or incapable of keeping it).

I don’t know where we go moving forward. More questions than answers.

Bit of a culture change for us after being used to playing under Nuno with a settled side and defined (and pretty effective) way of playing.

We don't look like the composed and confident third season Prem team any of us would have wanted, feels a bit like we've shot ourselves in the foot a little?

I think you can track it back to a year or so ago. I have always felt that we were more of an attacking threat playing 352 with Jota and Jimenez up top, although there were situations when we often didn't break down teams that sat deep and didn't let us counter.

Then Traore had that spell of 6 weeks or so where he'd come on and be almost unplayable, which almost demanded he play from the start and we were back to 343, which suited Troare but didn't bring the best out of Jota, which ultimately led to us allowing him to leave.

I'm convinced that all that was needed tactically from that 352 was bringing in a player like Vitinha is supposed to be for Donck/Mout/Neves in those tight situations. You could then upgrade Doc and Saiss with superior players for that formation - maybe in that scenario it might have been Semedo.

As it is it feels like we've adjusted too much when a tweak would have done

Wolves are among a number of top-flight sides that have set their sights on Stoke City striker Tyrese Campbell ahead of the January transfer window. [source: Football Insider]
I'm not sure this was really a live one, but he's now done his cruciate

Tomori still getting precious little football at Chelsea. I'd love us to sign him, especially if we're going long term to a four at the back.

Apparently Cutrone’s coming back in Jan.

Id love nothing more than to be proven wrong on him and the 4-2-3-1 would suit him better. However it won’t happen because

a) I think he’s burnt his bridges here
b) he doesn’t want to be here
c) we’ve moved on now with Silva and we don’t want to cut his gametime

He will probably be coming back to be sent back out . I don't really want him back at Wolves he didn't want to stay and fight for a place, when he left gave several shitty interviews about the situation, he's now gone on loan to a bottom half Serie A club, done nothin and now his agent is whining again.

He's not that good and doesn't seem to have the attitude I want to see from Wolves players anyway. Few weeks until January if we need to get someone without the need to go back to using Cutrone.

I'm a firm believer in second chances, if he shows the right attitude and dedication to improving his game and shows the right level of commitment I wouldn't have a problem with him getting game time.

Cutrone had something about him - just was never quite sure what it was.

Would not expect him to be here long term, if he is and comes good then fine - probably unlikely

Pretty sure Nuno isn't

Difficult to speculate on our strategy really without knowing the Raul prognosis, which seems to be better than the absolute worst case originally of never playing again. If he's out for the rest of the season or thereabouts then I think we need to be looking to sign an elite option if we can (easier said than done), then as and when Raul is back seeing how that that fits formation wise.

Irrespective of how well Fabio does, the intensity of the PL will burn him out if he plays consistently for 6 months, he'll need bringing in and out of the side.

linked with Rondon. what little i saw of him a couple of seasons ago, thought he could be a useful buy.

Nah, he's about as mobile as I am.

We don't need signings like that, it's not like we're going to get relegated.

I thought you liked Rondon? Or am I getting confused with a different ex Newcastle forward who went to China?

He's alright, he just wouldn't work for us and he's stupidly expensive for what he is in terms of wages.

I could of sworn you were a big advocate for him before he went to China, oh well, my memory isn't what it was

He was good three years ago, not sure he's what we need now.

As long as the Rondon now is the same Rondon that left Newcastle 18 months ago then it would be good short term signing based purely on the ability. I have no idea what the financials would be.

His stats stack up favourably with Rauls for a non-penalty taker in awful defensive teams. Plus we might actually get someone who can score a direct FK.

I would not mind Rondon at all as a shortish term back up. It could be a win/win for all. I just cannot see Giroud coming here despite talk, but there are few options out there at the moment. I am sure the club have some ideas. They do seem to play their cards very close to their chest in transfers.
