January 2021 Transfer Window

Anyone comparing Aarons to Semedo is seriously, seriously off the mark, IMO.

I saw Aarons about a dozen times last year, so maybe less than some here did, but he was always awful.

Some very tenuous links to Andre Onana. Dunno if there is anything in them at all. Would probably clear Ruddy out for a move, though.

Link?

Folarin Balogun is free to talk to clubs from abroad in about 20 days time. I wonder if we could strike a deal similar to what Brighton did for Lamptey. Exciting talent.

It was on an ESPN show stateside. Can’t find a clip on the site.
Probably BS, we get thrown around in those kinds of stories way more often since Raúl joined. They’re just playing to the audience, I think.

Surely that's just speculation. Could you make him or Rui No2 or would Rui move on? Seems like a sideways move to me.

Nuno needs to decide what formation he’s going to play, and get a centre back and centre mid who can play that formation. Can’t keep chopping and changing every week, turning in hugely inconsistent performances.

I think a CB is a must. We have Vitinha to link midfield and attack. Our problem is keeping the ball with the front 4.

Traore a huge problem and should be an option off the bench at best.

I agree, but don't know how realistic buying two first XI players in January is, based on recent history.

I would have expected Nuno to decide how he wants to play in the close season and then buy accordingly, looks a bit like the reverse happened currently!

May as well claim Otasowie is the saviour based on the amount of gametime Vitinha has had!
Silly statement. Vitinha has looked good in his cameos and has played in that position for us, Porto and Portugal youth.

He’s also played with Silva and so will have an understanding with him already.

Nuno needs some invention and attacking options from the bench. Vitinha represents both but Nuno doesn't fancy him at the moment.

Otasowie just got an international call up and has been on the bench a few times, just like Vitinha.

And just like Vitinha he looks like a fringe option for Nuno and has had pretty much no first team impact.

You're just trying to turn wishful thinking into concrete fact. I like Vitinha, but he's looking more like next seasons player than this.

Like most of our signings unfortunately

In the last window we clearly bought players suited to 3 at the back, Nuno chucking it out of the window on a seeming whim is messing up the squad balance.
Back to 3 at the back and buy a striker.

Without a meaningful contribition this would we spend the £20m for next though?

Lots and lots of currency in the bank, but Nuno's made a number of ropey tactical decisions since lockdown. He just doesn't seem happy to me

I don’t blame him, we weren’t creating enough and the move 4 at the back solves that. It’s mostly, to me, on the poor form of the 3 available CMs across the season. I’d play Vintinha with Neves / Moutinho. Or even Otasowie, Nuno won’t though.

I think you need to 'find solutions' playing players in positions in which they are most comfortable and build the formation from there. At the moment it seems to be how to get Neto, Traore and Podence all on the pitch at the same time and I'm not sure you can without looking uncomfortable elsewhere.

The potential lack of happiness, which i appreciate is something I'm only speculating on does worry me. He's voiced before he found the conditions post the first lockdown difficult, now he's spent the last 6 weeks away from his family, on his own, not being able to socialise or eat out.
