January 2021 Transfer Window

If I were managing France, based on his performance against Sevilla I'd be happy for Giroud to spend a lot of time on the bench. Whereas Paul McGrath didn't train and was fantastic, Giroud seems pretty useful despite very limited playing time.

I would be more than happy with Giroud at wolves..Traores crosses and Giroud putting them in the back of the net...like Raul has been doing..but it wont happen of course

Wolves have reportedly been offered the chance to sign free agent Hulk as a replacement for Raul Jimenez.

Hulk has recently left Chinese side Shanghai SIPG after four years at the club, scoring 76 goals and supplying 54 assists in 145 matches. [source: Football Insider]

Hulky Eastwood.

I think we can do without someone who can't run and twats the ball at defenders' shins from 35 yards out all the time.

Hulk was to Brazil in 2014 what Serginho was to 1982. That's as damning as I can get

17 goals in 34 games , 27 year old Lucas Joao is doing a decent job at Reading. 6ft 4 and 13 stone so he has a bit of strength about him. He would not be expensive either. 235 career games 65 goals total. Portuguese international albeit 2 caps a while ago. Probably a bit bargain basement but its a space we need to fill. Lucas Joao Sheffield Wednesday goals - Bing video

Talk of us and Arsenal sniffing round the Valencia fire sale for Maxi Gomez.

I remember being a bit of a fan of Joao after he bullied us in Lamberts first game (hadn't clocked him before that) but he gives me the Chris Iwelumo/Daryl Murphy vibes. A freak aberration of a season in an otherwise "meh" EFL career.

Also doubts about fitness/form given hes only completed 40 appearances once in his career.

For where we are i think we'd have had to have exhausted at least 20 options before he was realistically considered.

Lambert's first home game. We drew 0-0 at PNE in his first game. He came out and said afterwards "ach, we just had tae get a point on the board but we wouldnae want to play that way in future". Fair.

Next game comes, exact same team other than bringing back the previously suspended Dave Edwards and leaves everything else the same. Including a left hand side in a 4-4-2 of Matt Doherty and George Saville.

I'll be honest, I lost faith quite early on.

My reason for highlighting is that there are very few forwards " of the Raul type" who could at least link up play and be capable of scoring in the EFL. Toney at Brentford but they will want 30m and , although Watkins has proved a great buy for Villa , could lightening strike twice?

We'd actually more or less signed Toney for £500k in 2014. Failed a medical though.

£500k is nearer his actual worth than £30m, not that Brentford would sell him having signed him three months ago.

We won't be looking in the Championship full stop.

I Agree but you know BRENTFORD.

A shame re the Championship. Plenty of players have come out of it & gone on to do really well. Maddison, Grealish. Let's see how Cash does on Saturday. And Eze hasn't looked out of place. Plus there's part of me that wishes we'd signed Max Aarons for £10m less than Nelson

Could've been sliding doors if Coady scores that goal which would've made '96 Gazza blush 🤣

English, much younger, resale value, I imagine considerably lower wages. Knowing what I know now then it’s not as clear a decision as I’d have given in the summer.

Semedo hasn’t been bad, but to spend £30m on a 27yr old from Barcelona I was expecting more. I’m sure he will improve as he adapts but Max Aarons would have too for much less money both now and long term.

Max Aaron’s isn’t that good tbh

he’s not a good defender, and He can’t head the ball

he’s good at getting forward but doesn’t have a huge amount of end product even in a team set up to constantly attack.
