January 2020 transfer window

Weren’t Celtic interested in him but now have gone for a Polish striker from Bialystok?

He's a bit under the radar yet he looked a real handful against us.

I am just looking for viable cheapish alternatives! Rather than Nahki Wells!

When it comes to transfer window I am really glass half empty and what's in it is undrinkable.

Whilst this comes across a little harsh, I understand what you are saying. Nuno likes our players to be flexible and to be able to cover more than one position - but Morgan is potentially at the point now where he needs to decide exactly what kind of player he wants to be. If he wants to play in the midfield two, for example, he is miles behind Neves & Moutinho. He isn't the right kind of player to play in one of the wide forward positions - so I'm not hugely sure where he fits in at the moment. He's not good enough to warrant the entire team changing formation to fit him in either.

It will be interesting to see what Nuno's plans are for him.

Have to say this is my view as well. What is it now for MGW, something like 60 starts with one goal and one assist? Neto must have beaten that in a quarter of the appearances

9 (nine) league starts, 40 subs.

Plenty of people.

What else is "he has to shape up" or whatever meant to mean? Or else what?

He's a 19 year old kid who has hardly played and our fans are horrendous towards him.

Sorry, should have said appearances, not starts. Serves me right for talking to a client while I was typing it

I think a few people questioning what his best position is and how he fits in to our current starting 11 is totally different to "get rid", but whatevs, broseph.

Such an over reaction every time someone mentions MGW and not being good enough, for me it’s a difficult one, he’s definitely not improved as much as I’d have expected especially given as he trains every day when fit next to one of the best midfielders in the world, who wouldn’t improve?

But he also needs time, maybe that’s a failing of our recruitment department, failure to bring someone in enabling MGW to go out on loan and gain the experience he needs.

I don't think Nuno wants him out on loan though. Regardless of who we may have faield to sign, if Nuno wasn't impressed with him or didn't think he was making the progress he wants then he would have sent him out on loan or put him back in the U23's for an extended spell.

On his position - Like most players, Nuno wants him covering 2 or 3 positions so he is bouncing between centre mid, AM and wide forward. I would also say the back injury that has kep him out for a couple of months was around for a while and certainly not helping him (guess work on my part but a ton of players who have back injuries have been suffering a while before being taken out of the team)

Stop the bus!!!!

When he was part of the u17 world cup winning team his potential was heralded. Since then he has played over 50 times and has one goal and one assist. He is still very much in the has potential box. Unfortunately that can only lasdt so long and he needs to step up. I said before he is the same age almost as Neves was when he arrived and he made an impact week in week out albeit in the championship.

I agree with others in that I don't think he or Nuno knows his best position. That makes it hard for him to naturally fit. The issue is compounded by the tiny squad that Nuno wants to work with. MGW is taking a place that could be filled by another so he has to start making more of his chances. That's the same for any fringe player surely? If he doesn't he won't play. See Cutrone.

I am disappointed that he has not progressed . I had very high hopes but he hasn't fulfilled them in 2019 injury or not.

Imagine writing off a 19/20 year old.

I simply don't understand it, if he was 23/24 then fair enough. Not all players develop at the same rate

For all the waffling on here about MGW, if he wasn't doing what Nuno wanted or expected he wouldn't be taking any place in the team. Perry would be on the bench ahead of him (maybe Jordao if he wasnt crocked). We don't see what a manager does but we know if a player isn't producing (talking training pitch as well as game time) he will be gone, regardless of squad size.

The kid is 19 years old, and is being slated for not delivering week in, week out in a Premier League side - despite having 4 full internationals either ahead of him or competing with him for a central spot in our side.

He is also dealing with a back injury that was obviously more serious than thought due to the amount of time he has been unavailable with it.

He needs time to develop, and is going to take time to deliver consistently. How many 19 year old midfield players are currently ripping it up in the Premier League?

Interesting story on tugascout website about young Jota being available from Benfica. Would be a brilliant purchase if possible.
