I would like us to go for Gerard Deulofeu, as I can see him fitting in to our front three very well. I still don't think he's reached his full potential over here and when I see the job that Nuno & the team have done with Adama, a player like Deulofeu could really flourish here. He was quite complimentary about us when they beat us in the league the other day too.

Completely realistic though, I imagine. He's a big player for Watford and they would ask for silly money and likely wouldn't let him go without a replacement lined up. Then there's the fact he's more or less a nailed on starter for them, but would rotate in and out for us.

Not sure if he's right character wise for us. He's got the talent, but think part of his issues at watford have been him being unhappy at not starting.

edit - also, doubt he'd do the defensive work our system requires.

Cav was never going to come back & get in the team much so to get a good sale value is of real benefit.

On Cutrone - I liked his passion & energy, but as said doesn't really fit. Wish him well & we do need at least 1 in to give an amount of cover (getting a guaranteed starter ahead of Raul at this point of the season is extremely unlikely). Could well be a player who can challenge Jota or Traore out wide, but who also has some ability to play centrally (which to a degree Jota does anyway)

Ive said it before and ill say it again- the majority of seria a players (italians especially) dont do well in the premier league. If strikers like shevchenko and higuin were absolutely terrible in england, natural finishers with a ton of experience who had a fair bit of pace, strenght, hold up play and aerial ability, it was always going to be an uphill battle for a young player who doesnt stand out in any areas apart from finishing. All the best, we gave it a go, it didnt work out.
Personally if we are having trouble signing renowned players I think we should aim for the beastliest players in the french, belgian, dutch leagues, speed stenght and power and hope nuno can weave his magic.

The talk of Cutrone being a finisher make me laugh, he's barely struck a shot cleanly in a Wolves shirt. Most of his goals I've seen in highlights from Milan were good movement/instinct getting into goalscoring positions but then just sort of bundled or scuffed in, very few where he's actually shown any finishing skill.

Just had a look for it and can see what you mean.

The City one was pretty damning though, thought in most of his early performances you could see he was trying a bit too hard and could probably put some of his efforts down to a young lad keen to impress just snatching at things a bit, that City chance should've been bread and butter to someone professed to be a 'finisher' but he completely muffed it. Even more surprising was Traore later showing him exactly how to take those chances later in the game.

I had plenty of faith when Cutrone went through there.

I had 0% faith in Adama when he went through on the first one (given he'd gone over a year without a goal, or even looking like he'd ever score a goal).

I think he's a good player but 5-10 minutes here and there is doing him no good and I definitely understand if he's unhappy away from home as a young lad.

We had a discussion after the game the other night about keeping young players from overseas happy.

Take a transfer of £20m, a £2m signing on fee, agents fees and probably £50k per week in wages - why not spend another £50k per year x 3 and bring a few of their mates with them? Give them nominal jobs at the club to coincide with his training sessions.

Simplistic I know and plenty of flaws but Gazza took Jimmy Five Bellies to Lazio and while his choice of companion probably missed the mark slightly, it did help him settle.

It must happen and as you say obviously does but quite telling that when discussing Cutrone it was pointed out that of the two Italian speakers at the club, one was the cleaner. For them to even get a mention, it shows he must be struggling.

It's fucking hard living abroad even when you do speak the language, I can't stress this enough. I moved when I was 20, Patrick is about the same. All you've ever known is home. It's harsh, man. It's a massive culture shock.

Now I got to go to pubs, clubs, cafes, whatever, do what I want outside of work. And I was already a fluent German speaker. Because who gives a fuck how fit a teacher is. Signor Cutrone can't go down the boozer can he. He's probably stuck in his Tettenhall flat watching TV he doesn't understand.

I'm not going to blame the guy one iota if he wants to go back. It's tough.

People overlook the human side sometimes, "oh he earns £50k a week, how can he find it hard". It doesn't work like that.

I understand I really do and certainly hope he gets the right deal for him, as well as for us. It didn't work and no blame can be attached either way - I certainly wish him well.

As much as all the homesickness stuff is fair and true, I reckon the football side of things probably trumps it.

If he was getting more regular game time he would probably stick it out, but Nuno doesn’t rate him/fancy him so he isn’t.

He’s then thinking “fuck sitting in Wolverhampton on my own and not even playing when I can go back to Italy”.
