January 2020 transfer window

Maybe the whole struggling to get players in isn't the scouts/back room team fault,it could be the whole selling Wolverhampton thing, not the team,(players can see we are doing ok and could think yea they look a good team) but the town, after all we are a post industrial town in the English Midlands,it just doesn't say,it's a nice place to live similar to maybe Plovdiv in Bulgaria,Düsseldorf or Galati in Romania, even though we all know you've got gorgeous Shropshire just up the road

Not sure this is true. It's not particularly glamorous but then they aren't going to live in Tipton or Brierley Hill are they, and I doubt Albion are finding their players homes in Handsworth. There are nice areas around such as Tettenhall, Bridgnorth in Shropshire (shoutout), or I know a lot of players from all the West Midlands teams opt for Sutton Coldfield. Birmingham is nearby if they want the city life, but a lot of the players judging from their social media aren't spending all their time in night clubs and having that stereotypical footballer lifestyle - lots of them have young families as has been mentioned.

Liverpool hardly has a great reputation but I bet they don't worry too much about that as the football and project (plus the money) they can offer is such a big draw. Most don't live in the city anyway they go for areas like Formby and I think a great deal of them (plus Everton and the Manchester clubs) live further away in Cheshire.

That said London is a bit more unique in the lifestyle it can offer so does have a draw that we can't offer at times - Steve Sidwell opted for Fulham over us back in 2011 because of that if I recall. But ultimately the football and wages are going to be the most important factors.

"Stop panicking" is incredibly patronising. People talking about the transfer window shouldn't be deemed as panicking, it's a topic worthy of debate.

It's not meant as patronising, what is meant is that nobody on here has got a clue about whats going on regardless of how 'in the know' they claim to be, for all anybody knows someone could be photographed with a shirt in their hands tomorrow and everyone calms down. But to be labelling the very people that have got us into the best position for nearly 50 years as 'incompetent' is bewildering.

Dont think you can put yourself on your ignore list...

Kenny- Thats your best response? At least try to enter the debate around recruitment. If you are truly not concerned articulate it. The fact you dont makes me think that despite your , now familiar , little poke in the ribs you actually have a fair bit of agreement with the post.

Norman Deelings post above is fantastic.

I also agree with Johnny.

Now I am going for a LIE DOWN. Its all too much

I will have my say when the window closes. Right now its just flapping after 10 days into the window. Happy to watch others debating/being confident/concerned but not an issue I am going to get wound up about. Far bigger things in my life to worry about than a football club not spending money. I will continue to simply enjoy watchng the best team I have ever seen wear our colours.

"Nuno on bringing players in: "We are working on that. There are lots of names linked with Wolves, most of them are not true. We need to bring players - and we will bring players. But it needs time and proper decisions."

Meant more at talk about the management and competence of them all.

If we sign zero or one player in this window, many would see that as a failure and in relative terms, that comes across as panick. I wouldn't agree with it being a failure in the slightest. It clearly plays into a bigger longer term picture. So I'm adding balance to that arguement, because we're not 19th in the Championship anymore.

On the flip side, I share the ambition of all. Let's just try to avoid the models of failure (Everton etc).

Nuno on Cutrone: "When you bring a player and things don't work out, you have to think. We have to analyse and wish Patrick all the best. Hopefully, he can get the game time important for his development.

Absobloodyexactly

You could definitely argue in defence of the club and Nuno that moving on Jesus and Cutrone is a sign of strength as we are not messing around with players that just don't work out rather than hang onto them in the forlorn hope that things will change .
We might lose money on Patrick , but by keeping him and him continuing to fail to score we would lose more in points lost perhaps .
Move them on , wish them well and let's find replacements that can have a more immediate positive impact .

I think some people are perhaps taking for granted the fact that we've managed to keep the spine of our team. Bids almost certainly will have come in but we've held them. I don't think that was as obvious an outcome as perhaps some do.

At this stage in the window, Wolves will be looking for value for money. If we still haven't got anyone in a couple of weeks, they may have to pay slightly over the odds to get players in. It will happen though, have no fear.

Shall we just not bother then?

Of course we bother FFS! But buying players in this market ain't one bit like popping out to Tesco. Have some patience and judge at the end of te window.

I think that's what everyone on this forum is doing, tbf.

hmmm you aren't reading all the posts then, so far the recruitment team and Thelwell have come pretty close to being branded the biggest twats who ever worked in football in some eyes. I want signings, but i actually like that fact we don't sign any old chump who is available, care about the camerarderie (for want of a better word) within the team, and have the balls to realise when a signing just isn't what we thought we had bought and let them go.
Nuno has his way and looks for players who fit that way, and long may he do so.

This isn't new though is it. Poor Kevvy T is hated on by a lot and cannot work out how a ruthless organisation that will bin a member of staff if they look the wrong way at them have kept him and promoted him. Every set of fans need an outlet to moan at and the options have somewhat decreased over the last 3 years so Kev gets the majority of the hate. I'm sure its all harmless (except from Johnny, I think Kev stole his milk money as a kid or something)

I too fail to understand the levels of criticism at this particular stage in the window

You see this is the bit I find nonsensical. We must've known Cutrone was unhappy at the club and that he was looking to go back to Italy. So you plan accordingly to get a player in, like Dortmund have with Harland or Liverpool with Minamino. It would instantly alleviate the pressure on the squad and also give us a better negotiating position with Fiorentina.

It isn't like the Transfer window opens and we then start looking, this will have down (I hope) months in advance along with knowing what is happening with players, agents and their personal circumstances. Now maybe a couple of players have said no but then you have to get the ones in that say yes and the ground work for that should've been done in December at the latest, not January the 1st.

I definitely can't be reading all the posts.

People calling for 3 quality signings...[emoji1787]

We're a lot more flexible than is being made out. I'd take one quality signing, and even that could just be a loan with view to buying later. Attack minded preferred, but doesn't need to be a Raul clone.

Stop panicking, I'd rather a small squad and opportunities for youth than a larger squad and unrest at not enough playing time with players.

Problem with your post is right there. We don't have good enough youth forwards right now.

caught up on the thread and it's all simply arguing about arguing, ffs
