Israel-Palestine

Yup, he knew exactly what he was doing. Surprised me to hear Ian Dale on LBC last night saying the suspension was over the top, but think in the end the urge to disagree with Owen Jones trumped the urge to stick the boot into Labour

That "river and sea" phrase is exactly what the Leicester player Hamza Choudhury used and has recently apologised for being misinterpreted.

Personally I have no idea what it means or how it is offensive.

It means the elimination of the state of Israel. Therefore any words around the phrase become redundant

I've just had a quick read and can see why it's contentious. Unfortunately Hamas taking it as a slogan has sullied it's origins as a way of saying Palestinians want to reclaim their freedom to return to their homeland.

I guess it's similar to the way Nazis took the swastika from it's peaceful roots and used it to represent terror and genocide.

So you watch that and your first thought is "what is EP's agenda here...?"

You're wired different Johnny.
You've posted something completely different to the discussion. It looks like deflection as we know your opinion on Corbynites.

Do you have an opinion on the suspended MP?

That's a horrible watch. How the fuck are they so jolly when they're talking about it? Should be shown to every cunt in politics that talks about this as if it started on October 7th

I've posted about Israel/Palestine in the Israel/Palestine thread.

I saw that this morning and thought it was relevant to this thread.

I have also just noticed that last night i saw the Hitchins/Perry discussion and posted that on the RIP thread, whilst other members were talking about the Johnson death, it's just how a forum works.

If the first thing you can think about when watching old Israeli vets joyfully talk about rape and murder is forum etiquette or "corbynites" then I think you should perhaps look at yourself a little more closely, and at who is actually living "rent free" in whom's head.

It both does and doesn’t, simultaneously, which is why it’s so contentious.

I wish it would be dropped because it has been poisoned over time but it has such a long history of not being used that way - and is still widely not used that way for the most part, as much as some reporters and politicians might contend - that this is going to keep happening.

Comparison that might make sense here for anyone unsure about why it’s now a flashpoint is something like the word “colored” in the US back in the 70s. Specific context and usage is different of course but it’s language in flux, and intent clashing with received meaning. That wikipedia page is actually a great illustration both because it contains so many contrasting examples of how it’s been used and intended, and the page itself is clearly being pushed back and forth by different editors because it’s so hard to find some kind of “neutrality” on it.

Pure coincidence that you post something horrific about Israel to change the subject.

What do you think about the MP story?

If you want Palestine free from the river Jordan to the Med, Israel is rather geographically in the way. So the only way it can be achieved would seem to be if Israel wasn’t in the way.

Suppose the sticking point is how Israel ended up there in the first place.

Sure, but… it wasn’t always, and for it to be there the Palestinians had to be kicked out first. Hence its usage as a liberatory slogan - and who gets the trump card there? Which of these two oppressed groups has more “right” to define how it articulates its goals?

And also it doesn’t necessarily mean ethnic cleansing, as that Wikipedia article outlines - “be free” can imply a large range of different possibilites, from ethnic cleansing at one end through to democratic cooperation at the other.

PK and you live in a different planet, honestly.

This is a Wolves message board that dips its toe in politics, the mental gymnastics that you both think I'm performing on a daily basis is just incredible.

From what i gather you think that I've frantically searched out something off twitter about Israel to change the subject about an MP who i dont care about, and I'd never heard of 2 hours ago as if I'm some kind of TWF spin doctor?

Or what actually happened - i saw that video come up on my feed before I'd even looked on TWF this morning, and thought it was worthy of being posted in this thread as its not something I'd seen before.

Like PK demanding i condemn Hamas, you are demanding I give an opinion on the MP!? The self importance is off the scale.

You are an odd 'un at times, you are repeatedly abusive to me, claim I'm a narcissist, claim your living in my head, yet you have this weird EP narrative constantly whirring away over analysing post after post.

I'm sure you know what Occam's Razor is, perhaps reacquaint yourself with the principle.

creating a country is always an imperfect solution that is going to piss off parts of the population on the ground that sit on the other side of the argument. You would think we might have learned that lesson from Northern Ireland.
