Israel-Palestine

This was released on 12th October; we all know how Israel is viewed in the US entertainment industry compared to our own, but there's not much controversial in there imo, just appealing for condemnation of Hamas, release of hostages and support for the Israeli people, and ends with a plea for an eventual two state solution

The Artists for Palestine letter doesn't even contain the word 'Hamas'

If you stick a knife in my back nine inches and pull it out six inches, there's no progress. If you pull it all the way out that's not progress. Progress is healing the wound that the blow made. And they haven't even pulled the knife out much less heal the wound. They won't even admit the knife is there.

Gotta be honest, PK, I’m not sure what you’re looking for from people.

Not sure why people keep making this kind of weird remark.

I posted a link, if people overreact to it, or take it personally, then that's more revealing of them, than anything to do with me.

If you're one-sided about this shitshow war then I, and others, may well point it out... it's a current affairs forum :D

Isn’t all this stumbling over each other to try and be seen as condemning the whole thing from what might be perceived as “the right side” just a little bit unseemly?

Nothing to do with that, just ensuring that the Jewish/Israeli perspective (especially when it relates to families burned alive, children and babies killed and our own citizens taken hostage) isn't totally missing from the discussion, which it usually is once the usual suspects get involved

The Gazan perspective has been totally missing for 85 years.

You can’t expect us to ignore Israel’s role in creating an environment that supported the growth of an organization like Hamas anymore. Clearly appeasing Israel means death to innocent Gazans, as it always has.

Also, insulting EP’s intelligence or accusing the others of us of being “one sided” and you the unbiased arbiter who is simply pointing it out… it ain’t helping anything stay civil.

I don't personally agree with the narrative that blames most of what a terrorist organisation does on someone or something else. They have choice and agency, and most are full of despicable people. It's a masochistic, self-indulgent, privileged narrative beloved of many but count me out of it.

You can acknowledge the role of Israel in creating an environment that 'supports' Hamas if you like, but IMO you should also be vocal in condemning Hamas for the scum they are also. If you can't do both, or think it 'doesn't need to be said', then I'll disagree forcefully as long as my fingers can type.

Bear in mind this very post got  by a poster who couldn't even bring himself to say he believed the Holocaust happened, when questioned, and that EP was equally as dismissive and defensive of anti-semitism in the Labour party under Corbyn, so it's pretty clear that there are plenty of one-sided participants in this discussion.

I'm sure in the interests of 'civility' you'd like me to pretend I don't know all this, but it isn't going to happen. Sorry Al!

It's funny really, as I'm not sure you've done both youself?

If we can’t acknowledge the factors that create terrorism, we will never minimize it.
