Israel-Palestine

During the forty-nine-day Israel-Hamas conflict of 2014, Egypt wanted Israel to destroy Hamas, but Israel demurred, fearing a power vacuum and chaos in the area. Those positions have now switched, placing pressure on bilateral relations. Still, at the moment, there is no indication that Egypt would want a breach in ties; Egypt’s government benefits too much from Israeli help securing the Sinai Peninsula.
We agree. Egypt has absolutly no interest in having a war with Israel.

One would hope so but Anwar Sadat died 43 years ago and Egypt isn’t exactly stable
Sorry I missed your post. Believe me, Egypt and Israel will not go to war. I'm 100% on this. There is no chance. Egypt is having a war with Islamist extremists in the Sinai Peninsula. And that's about all they can cope with. If Israel and Egypt come to blows over this then I will eat my hat. I don't have a hat. So, maybe I'll say I'll eat a dog turd. That's worse than a hat.

Lebanese Hezbollah have stated that they will attack Israel. It's just a matter of time IMO.
Hezbollah are way stronger than Hamas. They have literally thousands of fucking rockets, including smart rockets, which leads me to the cynical but absolutely factual (unfortunately) situation that this war and it's likely escalation is proving to be a huge financial winner for American weapons manufacturers. This war on top of the invasion of Ukraine is minting money for the States based weapon builders.
Just days after Hamas kicked off, large shipments of American weapons arrived in Israel, smart bombs, ammunition, and interceptors for the 'Iron Dome missile defence system. No doubt that Biden will have increased military aid on his agenda,

Ya know I was going to leave this thread alone as I've said enough. But then you come up with this. Look man, I don't know you but I think you like shit like Tom Waits and similar? I'm not 100% but I think you do, and that makes us kind of.... well.... more interesting than most people. Kind of kindred. I rarely find Waits fans. But I do live in Margate and there are a shit ton of knob heads around.
Anyway, yes, Lebanese Hezbollah has access to a much better arsenal than Hamas or Islamic Jihad. This largely comes from Iran.
But, and this is a really important but, that whole military industrial base making money thing is not what is happening. Yeah sure some companies will be making money but we (the West) don't have the capacity to supply Ukraine with enough let alone the fucking IDF. We have what we have. We have little capacity to expand production on a prolonged footing. It is not like these weapons manufacturers have been waiting for this. They don't build spare capacity into their production lines cos there ain't no money in it.
Yes I agree that the US was very quick to announce its support for Israel. But when have they not? It's standard. In international relations we have seen the US back Israel over and over again over many decades. It isn't some grand conspiracy, it's simply that there are a fair few votes in it.
Well whatever. I'm going to try and just chill today as I've been getting all angsty about WWIII for a while and I just can't deal with it no more. I am going to listen to some early PJ Harvey. I love her stuff up to Let England Shake which she won awards for but I prefer the earlier albums.

Are you the ghost writer for Jeff Shi?

Oh yes! Tom Waits the story teller....
Some of his stories are better than the songs.
And yes, the American armaments industry is certainly ramping up...
And I'd be surprised if the British one wasn't also.
"We need profit, we need money,, we need a war!" (Very cynical quote from Pink Floyd or maybe Roger..?)

We have a war to profit from. We sell weapons to the Saudi cunts to fuck up Yemen with.

Please put me on ignore again

Strangely defensive and (again) insensitive post from another of the caring far Left.

And one of the worst analogies I've seen on here. Not sure what a domestic incident from 20 years ago with no connection to the Middle East has to do with one of the worst attacks on Jews in living memory that happened less than a fortnight ago

You really don't care about the effect that 7th Oct has had on the Jewish community do you?

Both that initial atrocity and everything that has happened since should be condemned by anyone who isn't just looking for something to prop their politics up

I really wasn't comfortable with how quickly the hospital explosion was portrayed in the media. Seemingly taking the word of Hamas at face value without any fact checking (until later) doesn't sit right with me.

Why do you need me to condemn it? It's bloody obvious that it's an atrocity!?

It's actually your obsession with politics that is making this such an issue, it's weird.

I don't need you to condemn anything 😅 (maybe Johnny was onto something with the 'narcissism' jibe), and you don't have to respond to the post!

So are you saying that it's obvious that all atrocities are to be condemned, so we don't need to condemn them vocally? It's just to be taken as read?
