I like Johnny. Or rather, I like my engagements with him, and think 80% of his posts add value whether I agree with the point, be it football or politics.
I'm no stranger to the odd belittling or dismissive post, sometimes I slap first, sometimes I slap second. It's not a great quality, but it's definitely a club that's in my bag. But I'd like to think that whenever I've had little bitchslap fights with anybody, they've never come away from it thinking I *hated* them, and not has it gone from thread to thread to thread. I've seen several rounds of arguments that made me think he actually, real life hated people on here, and made their experience deeply unpleasant.
And that's the bit of him I don't like - I think he often goes too fast and too hard, and it's not just been in the last couple of months either, it's been about ten years. If we did end of season awards, he'd have won the 'angriest poster' award so often he'd have no room on the mantlepiece for his picture of me, and that's clearly come with numerous bans and dozens of warnings.
If it'd been up to me I'd have handed week long bans to a good few people from both sides of the argument, and told them it was the last chance saloon, and if they can't just fucking scroll past shit that gets them riled and abusive then it's a permaban - but I do understand why the mods have decided the course of action. You can only warn so much.
I do think the forum will be poorer for his loss, but that's not the mods fault. It may be on the harsh side of what people would expect, but it's not in the 'clear and obvious error' zone imo and so while we can still disagree with it ultimately it's their call and we all know what we've signed up to
