General Wolves News

Congratulations to Jonny for being named in the Spain squad. Top stuff.

Have we had a current Spanish International play for us before?

Outstanding. Really shows the quality of Jonny (and how hard it will be to sign him)

Helder Costa in the full Portugal squad and rumours that Coady is going to be in the England squad announced at 2.

Helder Costa in the full Portugal squad

Presume he is replacing the poor chap currently fighting a rape allegation and has been left out of the squad...

So far, we've got;
Doherty (Ireland)
Costa (Portugal)
Neves (Portugal)
Patricio (Portugal)
Jimenez (Mexico)
Jonny (Spain)
and maybe Coady (England)

Of our first 11, we might only have Boly, Bennett, Moutinho and Jota staying back over the break.

Yeah, Jota is in the U21s.

Portugal moving on from Moutinho seems crazy to me especially as they are still picking William Carvalslow.

Wow was definitely not expecting that for Helder! He's been improving game by game but still feel there is more to come from him - certainly output wise.

Yeah, Jota is in the U21s.

Portugal moving on from Moutinho seems crazy to me especially as they are still picking William Carvalslow.

Strange as he still has plenty to offer but ultimately good for us!

They will realise their mistake in the new year when Joao's performances continue to help us win games.

Tarkoski isn't even fit is he?

Last season he made comments about not picking players playing in the Championship and now Mason Mount is in, don't see what Winks brings and also don't see the point in having 4 keepers in the squad.

ESPN have put together a little ranking of each PL team's playing styles and they have Wolves at #2 (behind only Liverpool).

Style: three at the back, overlapping wing-backs.

Nuno Espirito Santo has named the same starting XI in every match so far, underlining the fact that Wolves have an obvious plan, and are sticking to it. On a recent weekend of action, they were also the only side to use a three-man defence, a remarkable statistic when you consider that formation's popularity 18 months ago, when nearly half the sides in the division used that approach.

Verdict: Wolves still require better combination play in the final third, but the quality in central midfield and the energy of their wing-backs has created a cohesive, harmonious system.

Bit of a weird piece, though; they have Cardiff at #6.
