Forest 1 - 2 Wolves: Go, Diogo, Go!

Luckily it didn't cost us and we can laugh it off as a rare aberration.

It was but I can't remember ever seeing a 'keeper who has never made a mistake.

Plenty make mistakes but this one was really bizarre, I mean it's not like it's a situation that happens every week is it? Suppose in reality it's no different to a keeper letting one trickle through their legs when it was straight at them but it's a real kick in the teeth to concede a goal like that when there was zero threat until Ruddy went walk about, he effectively put it on a plate for the lad.

As for Leo, you get the feeling if he was blessed with pace he wouldn't be rocking up in football backwaters. He is the type who is clearly going to have a decent career without ever hitting the heights. Technically he is exactly what we need now but I would be surprised if he was still first choice in January.
I'm inclined to agree with this. If we're still in and around the top 2 in January, I expect us to sign someone better than Leo. Someone with perhaps a bit more potential to play at a higher level who will be bedded in over the second half of the season.

IF we go up, I can't see Leo being anything more than a squad player. He doesn't have the pace to play week in week out in the PL, in my opinion.

Despite all that, in terms of the here and now, he's doing a great job and I don't get the criticism at all.

Their goal wasn't a wonder strike and 99 times out of a 100 it would have been instantly forgettable as it would be an easy claim for the keeper.

Agree with this, if he did have pace he wouldn't be at Wolves and yet his return so far in goals and assists beats everyone from last season comfortably. I thought he was quiet to start with against Nott's (most were in fairness) but he always has a trick up his sleeve to create good chances for others.

From what I have seen so far I think hes superb, imagine when hes slotting those balls through for Jota and Costa!!

I am desperately varying to find a way to afford the fiver a game to watch this, but even though I only have the highlights up to now, I have to say, this is "hardon" football, and since I started watching in 1957 I am close to saying this is the best I have ever seen wolves play.
The pass from (Boy?) With the outside of his boot down the line was sublime, and I don't say things like that too often.
Jesus this is great football, and Jota is just astonishing , his touches?????..... I don't have the words.

Miranda played the pass, he's covering on the left while Boly is out injured

Couple of points from me. I'm not sure you'd get the pacy forward player who's more instinctive in front of goal than Leo, but still offers everything he does in the build up even with our money in the Championship. You are asking for the perfect centre forward and I'm struggling to think of one currently playing in English football, you are asking for Shearer in his early Newcastle days. Undoubtedly there are forwards who are more natural goalscorers out there, who would take the gamble on balls into the box that Leo doesn't, but I think it's debatable whether that would suit our overall pattern of play better. We will score more goals overall with Leo in the team than a pre crocked SEB for instance imv.

In terms of Ruddy and apologies for opening up an old argument, but as I said last year when debating Ikeme, all keepers make mistakes, your already established opinion of them tends to form your tolerance of this. In 8 league games 4 goals have in some part been down to him - Hull's first, the one against Cardiff that went through his legs, the half punch for Bristol's first and Saturday, yet the general view, which I agree with, is he's been good so far. I think he'll make as many mistakes during a season as Ikeme does, I do agree with Deutsch though when he says the difference with Ruddy is the saves he makes that you don't expect him to.

Agree with this, Bonatini is ideal as a focal point for the way we want to play. Trying to fudge Cav, Jota and Costa in as a front 3 probably won't work as effectively as keeping Leo in the team.

We're going to be fine this season, unless we have really bad luck on the injuries front (and TBF it's not like we haven't already had some shit luck in that department - Costa, Hause, Ofuso-Ayeh, Douglas, Boly, MGW and Marshall have either not played, been injured over the summer or picked up injuries since the start of the season).

We've already played plenty of sides you'd expect to be challenging for promotion, yet we're in 2nd place, and only Leeds, Brizzle and Hull have scored more than us. I'm sure we'll strengthen further in January but it's exciting to see how well we are playing even though there's still more to come from us, and that includes players who I honestly didn't think had a future here.

Home or away Wolves continue to open up the pitch better than any other Championship side then have the quality to take advantage of stretched opponents. Alls looking good.

After 8 games last season Brighton had 14 points, Newcastle had 16. I'd say our squad now is as good as theirs was last season

Jota first goal and guess the score, easy money :)

I had £5 e/w on it Saturday. Seemed ridiculous high odds for something that has a reasonable chance of happening. You'd hope we're only going to get better in an attacking sense and the way Leo plays he is basically the highest up the pitch.

Couldn't agree more, Punts. He may not win it, but no way is he a 33/1 chance, especially if he becomes our penalty taker (if we ever get one). Best bet I have this year is a lot of 5/1 and 11/2 for us to be promoted. We may well go up automatically, but I think we are certain to be in the top 6. If we're in the play-offs we're about a 5/2 chance.
