Somali pub comments 'misrepresented', says Lib Dem MP

http://m.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-30999056

Some campaigners had called for the government to go further and impose a blanket ban on the redevelopment of all pubs without planning permission.

Arguing against a blanket ban, Mr Williams told MPs: "In my own constituency, lots of pubs have closed - but it is usually because of demographic change.

"Some parts of my constituency, which had a 'white working-class community' 20 or 30 years ago, are now populated primarily by recently arrived Somalis and other people.

"Obviously the pubs in those areas have closed, and some have been converted to other uses, but some of them are still derelict.

""I could have made a point about pubs closing because of the decline of a factory or a football stadium - both of which also apply to my constituency," he said."

Might have been wise to throw that in during the debate rather than solely use the Immigration Card, then it doesn't come across like it did or as he states "misrepresented"

Lib Dems have found the way to fight back against UKIP...............say the same as they do

A bit unfair Kenny. I don't think he was having a go at immigrants, but I agree, he should have thought more before he spoke.

That was my point.

Easy card to use at the moment is the Immigration one

FFS, is there anything these bloody immigrants haven't ruined??!?!??

I know it wasn't your intention, Norway, but just pointing out that I never said the below.

(Just that if someone just reads that and hasn't read the post I posted, it would be easy to think that was written by me. Then in about a week, there will be somebody who will say that I said it.)

I repeat, I know you didn't mean that I had written it.

I was having a go at the politician who said/wrote it,not you,so I think that means I didn't think it was your words. :)

Pegida has got a foothold in Norway already.
Marches every Monday,190 people in the first one!Dwindling numbers after a couple more Mondays.

So many idiots in the world, why does everything have to be extreme?

Had the displeasure of driving behind this marvellous person the other day:

Oh the irony...

Evan Davies is doing a decent job of exposing Farage's contradictory and uber right-wing stances and policies. If he wasn't giggling like a little flirt, it would be much better.

On Thursday, UKIP voted against setting up an EU working group to tackle tax dodging:

http://www.votewatch.eu/en/term8-se...gs-proposal-for-a-decision-vote-decision.html

Today, UKIP put out a press release claiming they're the only party interested in stopping tax dodging:

http://www.ukip.org/britain_s_three_corporate_political_parties_should_hang_their_heads_in_shame

I can only assume they think their supporters are too stupid to note the hypocrisy. That's quite plausible TBH....

A bit of a generalization there, Visage.

Oddly enough we could, if we wanted, explain our vote on the setting up of a Special Committee to look at tax rates - which appears to be the opening ploy in an attempt to harmonise Corporation Tax across Europe. But I didn't need to explain that vote: everybody knows that Ukip opposes Europe-wide taxation and believes spending taxpayers' money on this Special Committee would be a waste.

That's their explanation. You must have only put a one sided spin by mistake vis, thought I'd help you out with both sides.

You might not agree with their explanation, but better to know what it is, right?
