Everton Verdict Thread

Kean kicked him while he was lying on the floor.

Willy was right to have a go.
Oh, I don't disagree. Just felt like there was something extra to it this time compared to the sort of "you're not worth me getting angry at" thing Willy usually does.

Just to look at last season:

2-2 vs Everton (arguably didn't deserve it, we weren't very good)
0-2 vs Leicester (we were good, lost though)
1-1 vs Man City (our goal shouldn't have stood)
1-0 vs West Ham (last second goal in a game that could have gone either way, from a player who hasn't even threatened to score since)

We were a whole two points better off with a hell of a lot of more luck than we've had so far. So cool those jets.

Thought Benno was way better than Coady today. And he does have a real problem of having to cover more ground at the moment (again not having a go at Adama - he is learning and learning fast, but it's all on the job).

Saiss isn't a great sitting midfielder IMO. He's better winning the ball higher up the park. We clearly want Neves dictating from deep, that is our plan. You are of course free to disagree with Nuno on that :D but he will not move from there.

Donck was the real weak link today, he got basically nothing right.

Agree with all that - Donk was awful today. Benno was decent, if uninspiring forward passing wise. (Coady had his worst sweeper game for us)

Re Carragher, he repeatedly stated he couldn't see where we were going to get a goal from as we were just playing long balls and had nothing else.

We scored 2 goals away to a team that hadn't conceded at home since January was it? It wasnt great yesterday but I think we need to play at least 1 defensive wing back away to one of the better teams in the league, Vinny is a great attacking threat but he puts a lot more pressure on the back 3 than having Jonny in the team

As others have said Donk wasnt really at the races, bit disappointing to see, but I guess were all allowed a bad game every now and then. We dont have any right to win these games and it's a measure of how far we've come to be disappointed at losing away to Everton by 1 goal out of 5.

There are concerns in that performance and rightly so, think we just need to get a couple of wins under our belt to steady the ship

Think Carragher’s commentary made our performance look worse than it actually was. He was very quick to judge that second was on side.
Even this morning I’m still miffed by how quickly it was checked, lack of replays to prove plus the almost ignorance to it by Sky at the time.

Carragher was unbelievably negative, when it was 2-1 he was getting worried and annoyed that Everton hadn’t finished us off and we might nick an equaliser and then was saying how badly we had no chance in the league because of Europe.

Get used to being disliked by scousers and former Liverpool players suppose. Mcmanaman and Carragher have both given pretty much identical commentaries on Wolves in the last year Lawrenson predicts us to lose most weeks .

We are not the cute new boys. We are brand that has grown fast and quick and are backing it up more often than not, on the pitch. That makes us a threat to the status quo. Some will love it if we fall on our arse particularly because of our Mendes connection and most of that is from pure jealousy.

Yes we are not sitting in a great position and are 6 points down on the same fixtures last year but today we were architects of our own down fall against a top 10 team who have never been out of the premier league and spent 130m on Kean, Richarlison Iwobi and Pickford in the last two seasons and will be desperate to finish above us. Oh and they came in for some right old hammer for their shit show at Villa.

As a club we are learning about the top flight and how to balance things.Man City and Liverpool have it off pat but can also come a cropper like Liverpool did in the cup against us last year. So even the best don't always get it right.

There is absolutely no signs to say we should be pressing the worry buttons yet.

Not sure why we've started lumping long balls up from the back, and I know we scored from one yesterday but also not a fan of launching every throw into the box either.

The throw in's were obvious yesterday as Everton have a history of struggling to cope with high balls into the area, so we went straight in with that. If they have a problem dealing with it, give them lots of problems. 1st time we have used it as a 1st choice tactic and it will probaby be the last time...until we play Everton at home

I'm still surprised Raul's equaliser stood. VAR should have disallowed it. Not sure how 'clear' an error has to be but half a foot on the pitch when your launching your throw in seems pretty clear.

Agreed, I didn't celebrate when it went in as I was convinced it was coming back.

Another thing that barely seems to have got a mention, why did Kean get away with kicking Boly? He had two nibbles at him whilst Boly was on the floor, but the 2nd one was a definite kick out. The replay showed it, but neither commentator gave it barely a comment and there wasn't a VAR review at all. Why?

Whilst you are right, for whatever reason foul throws are very rarely given, the laws of the game haven't changed but they just don't seem to clamp down on them, in the same way as the 6 second goalkeeper having the ball law is still there, but both Pope and Pickford have had the ball in their grasp for around 30 seconds in our games against them - nothing.

When Raul scored his goal, he was kicked on the side of the head by Digne.
Play was stopped for treatment to Raul but I didn't see anything done about the foul play.
Surely that was a yellow card minimum.

I.may be wrong but i thought as long as part of tge foot remains on or behimd the line it's legal.
I coukd be wromg its a long time since i passed my refs exams or indeed reffed a game

it used to be any part of the boot, but I haven't played properly for 20 years now.

Law 15 (relevant part)

Procedure
At the moment of delivering the ball, the thrower must:

stand facing the field of play
have part of each foot on the touchline or on the ground outside the touchline
throw the ball with both hands from behind and over the head from the point where it left the field of play
