Euro 2016 watch

Good grief LK, that's some lack of pace you've gone with there, your team is like Capello the dinosaur picking it. To compare Barkley with Gued is a nonsense too.

I think as always English fans big up their own players far to much leading into a big tournament. Watching Spurs against Dortmund the best kid on the pitch by a country mile was Julian Weigl, the English lads I dont see in the same class tactically. Technically they may be on a par but for football nous they are light years behind.
I see the English midfield as a massive weakness whatever the permutation from the players on offer this summer.

People's thoughts on Sterling? He'll go if fit but I saw someone state the other day that without his pace he'd be a League One player. I guess I'd just about agree with that. His dribbling isn't particularly great that he beats players with it, and his finishing can be woefully poor.

Agree, Sterling is a richer mans Redmond for me..he has a lot of potential, but needs to step up qualitywise especially finishing and consistency..

I think Sterling is our best player. He's had a tough season however. His pace isn't his heat attribute, technically he's excellent but he also has a football brain.

While LK says we big our players up before a tournament (definitely been the case over the years) we are equally as good at writing young players off. Under Guardiola I see him developing into a fantastic player

I agree with all of that YW, he's got massive potential and i can see Guardiola getting the best out of him. His work rate and movement off the ball are excellent and prove that he has a brain and is not all pace, in a side that is not a mess like City this season he will thrive.

His decision making is poor, a good coach can help him with that

Im sure he will improve under Guardiola..also agree regarding his massive work rate

Alli and Kane have combined for more goals than anyone else in Europe this season. Talking about leaving half that partnership out of the entire squad is just nuts.

Dier, Alli & Kane all have to start.

If Hodgson can get the selection right then I'll be more excited about this tournament than I have been for a while. However, if Henderson and/or Milner start the first game of the Euro's then he can bore off.

Sadly I think the latter is more likely! If he can resist the temptation of his 'tried and trusted' players like Milner, Henderson, Jagielka, and even players like Carrick and Baines who I like but are on the decline I would be quite excited as even if we do crap, we may actually give it a go. I don't think it's in the nature of the likes of Alli, Barkley, Lallana etc to be negative and sit behind the ball

Most managers go safe in big tournaments, i expect Hodgson to do the same, right or wrong

In some ways it's a difficult one for Hodgson as he knows he needs to get to the quarters at least to get a new contract yet the country wants to see youth and form in the team. I also think when it comes to picking the first side at the Euro's he'll take what he sees as the safer option of the likes of Rooney, Lallana, Henderson, Cahill etc over Barkley, Stones, Drinkwater and Vardy
