Euro 2016 watch

There is no room for Carroll for me. Plenty of other striker competition. Rooney Kane Welbeck and Vardy are definites, and I would think Sturridge will go if fit. No chance that Carroll will break into that.

I don't see how Carroll could potentially be an option, when some also dismiss Rooney at the same time.

I've dismissed Rooney as he isn't quick enough any more, not good enough off the ball or have a decent enough strike rate this season but I concede he's got tournament experience. I can't see how Walcott can be considered as he's had an abysmal season.

Carroll is better in the air than any other striker we have and if we need to win a game against mobile but not tall centre backs then he's a very good option.

Vardy is ahead of Carroll for that role. We don't need the "old-fashioned number nine".

If we're going 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 Walcott goes purely because we don't have many options wide right and he can play up front if the shit hits the fan. I agree he hasn't had a good season but I really don't think we have many alternatives.

My current squad (assuming all fit):

Hart Forster Butland

Clyne Stones Smalling Shaw Cahill Bertrand Walker

Dier Wilshere Milner Alli Sterling Barkley Walcott Lallanna Drinkwater

Kane Vardy Welbeck Sturridge

Looks decent TP but I wouldn't take Walker. All of Dier, Stones, Smalling and Milner can cover RB, no need to take a specialist sub.

Agreed. My thinking was that if we aped Spurs I've noticed that Pochettino often rests Rose and Walker due to the huge amount of work they have to get through. I was thinking we could rotate the FBs. I know its only 7 games at most but given the demands of a Prem season and all that...

Fair points, but I don't think he's very good at all.

I wouldn't take Walker, I'd take Rooney.
I'd try and find a place for Carrick but appreciate that won't happen.

Lallana or Oxlade-Chamberlain?

Ox has had a shite season and is injured again, Lallana for me (appreciate he flatters to deceive at times).

Really impressed by Lallana recently.

Ox needs a move. The talent is there but he needs football every week to progress. If the rumoured West Ham interest is true it would be a good move for him under Bilic.

Bertrand has pulled out of these two games through injury (no replacement, so definitely looks like it's over for Baines) which means Rose will be getting his debut, I can't say I'm overly pleased about it.

Away from England for a minute, answers on a postcard what Martin O'Neill is possibly trying to learn from starting Kevin Doyle tonight.

I suppose Walters and Keane are injured but Murphy is on the bench - you've got to think it would make more sense to play him, he's not made an impact in international football so far so he's probably racing against time to get in the squad, you need to give him the opportunity to prove it either way. I can't for a minute think he's actually going to take Doyle in the summer and even if you were minded to do that, surely you already know everything there is to know about him.

A final chance to show he can still do it. Has a failure and he is watching from the States in the Summer

Looks like he's going off injured now.

Team to play Germany tomorrow apparently: Butland, Clyne, Smalling, Cahill, Rose, Dier, Henderson, Alli, Lallana, Kane, Welbeck

Not so bad I suppose. I'd have Barkley over Henderson mind.
