Percentage increase has dropped a little today.

Up to 373 with a 52 increase. So just a 16% increase.

However it only is a drop if we tested the same amount of people as yesterday.

No doubt this drop will be spun as a success and a sign that we are doing everything right...

We tested 988 rather than 1250 though. Percentage positives has jumped from around 3.1% to 5.3%.

I don’t see much positive there.

Have friends due to visit us at the beginning of May from USA, their 3 week trip included travelling to other countries to visit others friends. Their Dr has advised them to definitely not travel and to cancel. Bearing in mind their age and previous health problems I don't think I would have needed my Drs advice!

Our Dr hasn't said anything significant as of yet.
We are staying in fordhouses for our stay, but do plan on a trip to Stonehenge, London and Newark whilst we are there, that's if we decide to fly of course...

I can't imagine the risk here is any higher than in the US? Only caveat is you might not be *allowed* to travel internally by the time you get here. On the bright side you will actually be able to get tested here so there is that.

The NHS are going to help with the testing and take capacity up to 4k tests a day, we may well see a stark difference when that happens.

I suppose it all depends on what percentage contract it and what percentage need hospital treatment. From what I can gather the vast majority of people will get a mild form that can will just need self isolation. Surely all resources should go to the very vulnerable.

The resources will go to the very vulnerable, around 5% will need help breathing (i.e. ICU)

There are 4,000 ICU beds in the UK, 4/5 are occupied. That doesn't leave much capacity at all.

I don't see a situation where people will need ICU but we won't have the capacity to cope.

People are going to die, and not just from coronavirus. Good luck if you get into a car accident or need urgent medical help for something else

The scary thing is I don't see how this ends other than one of two ways

1. Enough people catch it and develop a resistance to it so the virus runs out of people to infect

2. We develop a vaccine against it

Both of those seem like a very long way off

I think if I was given the option, being under 40, I'd get infected and self isolate for two-three weeks so I could carry on and know I'm not going to infect anyone

I think the reason is that fewer are showing for testing ‘on the off chance’ so more will be people subjected to the tests are showing more likely symptoms. In an ideal world we would be testing thousands a day. I wouldn’t expect those results to be very encouraging.

I havent checked but I presume cases in warmer climates are significantly lower than places with weather like Europe? We know colds/flu happen in the summer but at a lower rate.

Waits for someone to show me I shouldn't presume and the figures are shite everywhere...

the recent cases in Greece and here on my island are from a bunch of vicars who went for a trip to Egypt and Israel.
