Turns out it's the first generation after the war generation that are stockpiling. Who knew they'd be the biggest bellends of all.

No correlation with those who voted Brexit either...apparently.

Not totally true - I fall into that as was born in 1950.

I have enough, but no massive stock. Called one of my neighbours this morning who is 87 to see if she needed anything - her daughter lives not too far away so has been able to get most of what she needed though hadn't managed to get any loo rolls so I walked over and left her a 4 pack I had managed to source in Lidl's a couple of days ago - will still have enough to cope for a while.

The charity I help run has had to cut our opening hours to 2 mornings a week as don't have enough volunteers who could come out to staff more. Have stocked up with the regular consumable items that our customers need without which their lives will be even more miserable, but the specialist medical firms we buy from are struggling to keep pace with orders so have blocked any more orders for a while. Biggest problem is going to be whether we can get another supply of NHS hearing aid batteries from Salisbury hospital - if you are old & isolating then not being able to hear as well is going to be painful (you can buy these online, but they are expensive & don't last that long).
Think that we will qualify for the Gov't grant for small businesses which will remove a lot of the financial pressure on us as will at least cover our rent for some time which is our biggest cost.

I make exception to beer. I’ve just brought £50 worth of stock from a local brewery to try and help them stay in business.
Which one?

Barely talked about news. A rebellion unfurling in Westminster in respect of the emergency powers. David Davis suggets a brick wall and that the legislation becomes defunct after a year. Apparently 300 pages to be scrutinised. Good luck with that David.

I of course just meant in Asda, Tesco etc.

If we all need to get enough Skol to see out the year then something is wrong.

Much of the panic buying has been fuelled by the gutter press. In itself hoarding can be identified as self preservation ie the survival instinct kicks in - but this is in a false situation, it creates chaos because they are being manipulated.

"Lombardy death toll rises by 546 in 24 hours"

5,000 new confirmed cases in Spain in the last 24 hours too.

Remember the good old days when we were told this Country survived 2 World Wars so we can handle anything? Yeah, fair to say this generation would shit their pants and kill their neighbours for a Jaffa Cake if we actually had a physical War in our Country

My grandad served throughout WW2, Norway and then airborne. He told me some stories: people were shit then as well. Taking the piss, making money from the gov and military. Petrol was stolen widely. Food stuffs were delivered to barracks but there were no food stuffs in the truck. People were on kick-backs. Officers etc. It's not just this generation!

Apparently domestic Crime escalated massively during the Blitz, no such thing as the 'good old days' just selective memory.

My dig was more at those who make the claim that is essentially "We are British, nothing will stop us we won 2 wars" than claiming it was actually the good old days, bring 'em back

I know, I was basically reinforcing your argument with something I'd heard on QI whilst watching telly in bed one night, that is all :)

They've hired in security on the door at Wombourne Sainsbury's, checking people in and out to make sure only the olds can go in early and that they don't buy too much.

Had a day of gardening today. No octogenarians offering me their lovin', so all was well.
