Coronavirus

In the proper thread this time...!

So... key workers, any idea what they are? I read somewhere this includes delivery services, wife works for Royal Mail, so we might be included?

In Holland, where they have done similar it has to be be both parents though.

BoZo himself specifically mentioned delivery drivers, but I think he referenced it with food delivery drivers to the supermarkets, so I think he means those driving the big 38 tonners to keep the shelves full.

These absolute scum bags that are stockpiling had better calm down soon otherwise we'll end up with ration books......overreaction? We'll see

I guess that as long as trains keep on running I'll be classed as a "key worker" but we don't have young kids anyway.

Wife went into work today and was told she will be working from home "for the next three months". They then "trained her up" on accessing her work on the laptop they're providing

Wasn't originally happy that I had got to retirement age & stopped working, but makes this situation a little bit easier to manage.

Still do stuff, but not as time specific so easier to arrange.

So, I hear this. I do. But there have been 22,000 influenza deaths in the US alone this season.

I understand that the death rate is higher so far with COVID-19 and the infection spread supposedly easier, but when I hear 22,000 vs 97 (both in the US)... It's a struggle not to think that some of the measures being taken are an overreaction. Or, at least to not wonder why we weren't all freaking the fuck out well before COVID-19 was on the scene.

If the daily death rate continues to rise at its current rate, Italy will eclipse that 20,000 in just under 3 weeks. Given that it follows that reduction in death rate won't be seen for 3-4 weeks after transmission slows down, it's pretty grim.

The UK's chief scientist said yesterday that losing under 20k over here would be a massive success.

Tell me again it's an over reaction

Honestly - I have never seen anything like it.

I can see hand stamps when you enter the supermarket because I know of people who are getting round the three item thing by doing several fucking loops back to the car and loading it up before going back in for their next three bog roll packs. It's fucking pathetic.

Well done to Gary Neville and others involved in this. Same goes to Chelsea for doing the same. It needs to happen around the country to help and protect others. There a single nurses who can be protected from vulnerable family members by having such facilities available to them.

Being a PCV driver this Virus is hitting the industry hard. Companies are losing school routes, private hires and the bigger companies like NXWM etc are scaling service all the way back to Sunday service. There’s several good friends of mine being told by employers they wont be paid past next week as they’re all being stood down due to no work and not paid due to Zero hour conditions. Hopefully there will be protection for us that are losing our weekly wage and help us pay things like rent without running up debt.

My local Texas supermarket chain just had its best ever week for sales - over $650 million ($2 million-ish per store). They have had to cut back on opening hours just to restock shelves, but there are queues to get in every morning - despite their warehouses being full of everything except toilet paper and water. They just cannot get stuff to the stores quickly enough.

I have sold double the usual amount of beer, wine, and spirits, but we have had no panic buying yet and distributors do not foresee any problems getting stuff to us. I'm ordering a LOT extra just in case. With no school, working from home, warnings against going to bars and restaurants, - a lot of parents need a drink or three.

Some states have already closed their liquor stores, but (hopefully) that would really be a last resort for Texas.

Yep. Cambridge university went red status today. Basically go home if you possibly can. My college has a high number of foriegn students. Admin staff working from home but us keeping them safe , secure , fed and clean are here for the long haul!

Gary Neville hands his hotels over to the NHS freeing 176 beds and citing extraordinary times.

" cyber tips hat"

Well done sir.

I told a man hoarding some toilet roll at the weekend that I sincerely hoped he did not get covid 19 but hoped karma would ensure a nice bout of noravirus so he could effectively use his stash. Prick.

Roman Abramovic has done the same with the main hotel at Stamford Bridge. NHS staff only and he is picking up the entire bill. Fair play. Not a bloke I normally have any time for but that is a big gesture in a tough time.
