Coronavirus

As I keep saying over and over and over again.

I'm not opposed to opening up everything if we know what the likely impact will be. If that's not tolerable then we open up bits and pieces.

I haven't once said we should remain in lockdown forever or even not open anything as long as the data suggests we can.

That's it, that's all I've said.

You're never ever going to be able to predict anything with the degree of certainty that you want though. It'd be an endless cycle of "we don't know so best play it safe".

We know vaccines work, we know how many people have had them. At some point you have to push the button.

Forcing the blood out of my finger for them does come in handy when they are putting together the statistics. My other half has the antibodies too which is a bonus due to her being on immunosuppressants. That should be good news for others who have similar medical ailments etc as there were worries about how effective the vaccines would be.
this is heartening if true..... Dunno who Bevan Shields is or where he gets his info from though

ONS.

We’ve been opening up bits and pieces for months! And despite every model going saying everyone would die, they haven’t. There isn’t really a “next step”.

The only thing not open fully is hospitality, nightclubs etc. Hospitality isn’t a factor and your typical nightclub goer are already doing whatever they want anyway.

People will still “socially distance” as you don’t get in the faces/personal space of randomers. Those who do are already doing it. Your mask only stops droplets going onto surfaces when you cough/sneeze. Keep sanitising your hands and don’t lick surfaces and you will be fine. If people are worried about aerosol transmission in crowded places then get an FFP3 mask or greater (fit test optional), their existing mask was doing fuck all in that regard anyway.

But ignoring all that, the sole purpose of this “opening” is they want cases to rise. They want this exit wave in august and not October. This is the best time, delaying things is defeating the object of the plan.

It’s basically Feb 2020 again where the government wanted to gradually infect people and get herd immunity. This time they are doing it with the back up of a vaccine. The vaccine is the magic medicine, there is no plan B. So if the vaccine doesn’t work then survival of the fittest it is. Fortunately the data says it does.

Thats the nub of it - they should just be honest about it.

Again, missing the point of what I'm asking.

I don't have an issue with the proposal, I just want to know that theyve done their homework.

Why now? Why not three weeks time? Why not four weeks ago?

Well I’d expect they’ve done their homework. It’s not rocket science though, it’s pretty obvious.

Why not 4 weeks ago, it bloody should have been! Basically propaganda to increase vaccine uptake though.

Why not in 3 weeks, because then you are getting closer to schools/universities opening back up and the autumn where “flu season” happens and there is natusrally a higher strain on the NHS so they’d be less able to handle the wave. Plus people who where vaccinated ages ago, there immunity is on the decrease, and this will be JCVI 1-9 who are most susceptible anyway. So yeah, has to be now. But I put all that in my original post(s).

Back of the envelope, X cases these days = 1.9 to 2%X admissions 10 days later, and no. in hospital beds = 10x daily admissions (recent and historical PHE figures). So probable 100k daily cases (S. Javid) = around 20k in hospital. Probable worst case (N . Ferguson) = 200k daily = c. 40k in hospital, which is the same as in january. We coped. Also, those case nos wouldn't be sustained for long because herd immunity will kick in quicker the more infections there are. Yes, some people will die, as some people do, unremarked upon, of other causes all the time. Yes the tiny fraction of immunosuppressed will have to continue shielding, which is unfortunate for them, but no reason to disrupt the rest of society.

Actually that hasn't been an option since the end of March (unless you want to lose your job...).

Nice u-turn after the Heil slaughtered the government. Vaccinated travellers from amber countries now will no longer have to quarantine after 19 July rather than the original August date.

I am fucking off on holiday as soon as possible

Put off renewing my passport, because no point, but think I'll still wait till next year.
