Coronavirus

I’m definately not using this to say the government is awesome in general, just that this particular issue has been really well handled.

I think one jab gives around 66% protection, two takes to 90% - so one jab is significant and it’s comparing with other countries who have also done one so works for me at the moment.

would be good to have a secondary measure of two jabs though, I agree as that will become more relevant over time.

The roll out of the vaccine has been a tremendous success and credit goes to all who are involved in the process.
Having the vaccines on hand quickly was down to gambles taken with the public purse. I’m sure they were calculated risks but the fact we stumped up funds quickly meant that we were at the front of the queue when vaccines were approved.

Yes it was a gamble, and it's paid off. It's the austerity, risk averse nature and "schwarze Null" mentality of the Germans in recent decades that has now lead to the catastrophic failure of the vaccine rollout in the EU, leading to the further loss of life, and to more economic damage.

Yeah partly, as I say, the vaccines aren’t free - but being at the front of the queue is what got us to the front of the queue. The eu signed contracts three months later than we did because they went through a huge amount of beaurocracy, where we made decisions and took action.

They did so because they were looking to save a few bob

They are reporting the numbers of those who have received the 2 doses.

Another thing I'll give praise for is the dashboard. In seconds you can see the latest figures at a very local level.
Good to see that despite the number of tests going up, the positive cases overall are falling along with deaths and people being admitted to hospital.

My local area is now classed as below average (probably why I fit in...) but what are people doing in Telford and Shrewsbury FFS, numbers actually rising there. Is there an overspill from WS2 pouring that way

On WS2, 7 people from the place my wife works at had to have the surge testing done and everyone of them gave negative results.

I'm still waiting to be given the thumbs up to start my helping out on the vaccine program. The process was very slick until I got the initial offer. Since then it has dragged on somewhat and only got to the point yesterday where my DBS check was sent off despite me filling in the forms at the beginning of last week.

The only thing I'll credit the government for with vaccinations is that they've left it to the NHS to handle.

My mum had her first dose a couple of weeks ago, and is due her second in mid-April.

Are you going to be jabbing? Band 4 pay I hear

According to the vaccine calculator posted earlier on the thread I'm due my first between 1st May - 21st June, and second between 3rd July - 13th September. That's a lot sooner than I thought considering I'm 29 with no underlying conditions whatsoever.

At the moment we are running off 2 vaccines so the calculations are based on the expected supply from them

However, March/April time the 3rd vaccine arrives (Moderna) ready to use and in the next few weeks both Novatec and J&J will be submitting their applications for approval. By the end of April we should be overflowing with vaccines and we have already shown we have the capacity to vaccinate 600,000+ per day and with 1 vaccine being a single shot those calculations will change and bring everyone forward.

that's sooner than me when I did it the other day, and I have almost 2 decades on you!!!
Perhaps it has been updated since I did it.

Got a SMS from the GP this morning offering me a jab today as there are spare slots due to a lower than expected uptake. The wife already has her appointment for 16:30 this arvo (she's in G4, I'm G5). Mine's at 16:40!

Back of the net.
