One other thing. I had a telephone call with a mature student today, and it scared the fuck out of me. nice welcome back to work!
student was 38. no health issues. husband ditto. 2 kids (early teens).
student & hubby have covid. 10 days into it. just SPEAKING was an extreme effort and made her out of breath. Every 2nd sentence from her was begging me to stay safe/be careful. The impact of that call was huge for me.
It really got me thinking afterwards. I know many are more blase than me, but even I've slacked off. Still a lot of handwashing etc, but I think some habits have slipped. Gotta get back to limiting all forms of potential social contact etc.
She's younger than me, and the impact is massive. I was reminded of how angry I have felt when people ask "d'you even know anyone who has had it tho?" Er, yes actually. 4 of them have died. on 3 consecutive days in sept/oct I dealt with over 100 conformed cases per day at work.
My primary thought has usually been not caring about myself, but about the risk I could potentially be to others. But it seems clearer now that the risk is to all adults (one of my friends who died was a similar age to me.)
It also made me think of friends, as we're not seeing each other - for a while now. I miss them. I've made many on here - pixel friends, and real life friends. Please all take care of yourselves. Protect yourselves, as getting ill clearly is not fun.
