Coronavirus

Could take a while longer than that I guess, seems that most of the current surge in cases is in the age groups below that so even with the more vulnerable protected it wouldn't see a big drop is hospitalisation unless Tier 4 measures are enough to limit the spread.

Way to ruin the year already Mark...

Going to be interesting to see how our dear leader handles this as he promised the MP's against lockdowns/tiers that they have "a sunset of the February 2nd". Right now its unlikely he can do much else outside of lockowns or adding numbers to tiers to hide lockdowns but he doesn't like being unpopular and certainly not with the people who got him his dream job.

So get down to group 6 and some level of normality returns?
I'm hoping that once we've done the first three line we'll notice a significant improvement. Theoretically we should have prevented 2/3s of Covid deaths.

Everything after that gets into diminishing returns territory

Depends what the approach is re: infections. Going forward they may just be bothered about NHS resources rather than worrying too much about infections.

he's already started moving that narrative to being easter i think.

The Easter stuff he has been talking about as soon as he had to give up on the Christmas promise. That stuff is for the general public, the February stuff was for his own MP's, specically the ones who voted against him and have started their own after work club to moan about lockdowns

suspect he has a number of his own mps now who trust less of what he says given the past 10 months.
similar to how the eu stood their ground with their negotiations.
even elements of the press are starting to speculate about how consstent he is.

Boris said "alas" this morning so Tier 5/lockdown incoming

I may have been being ironic. That’s what the fat fuck said. As the new variant is spreading through younger age groups quickly, sticking them all in rooms together seems a fantastic idea.

Starmer calling for a national lockdown (ie not the half-arsed stuff we have now - too much stuff is open in Tier 4 if this is the strategy we really want to pursue) within 24 hours.

Usual pattern is Johnson says no, makes some disparaging remark, then does it 10-14 days later after a load more damage has been done.

Depressingly this is exactly what will happen

We've had 50k+ cases for six days in a row and some of those figures will be subject to weekend/Christmas/New Year lag. I'd say I can't believe they've let it get to this point but I absolutely can.

If Boris isn’t careful he is going to start making the Trump response look alright.

My little girls primary school is half shut (as in only half the classes in). Teachers have sided with their Union and effectively gone on strike.

More local authorities will take control of this and I can only see all schools closing this month.

Precisely. Boris doesn’t want to make decisions that make him look bad so he dithers until the decision is made by the actions of others. Every time. Hence “in some weeks” in the Marr shit show this morning really was “I am scared that whatever I choose is going to annoy someone so use the time wisely to make the decision inevitable “

Suspect a lot of people working from home/on furlough kids will be off 'sick'
