Coronavirus

Listening to a virus expert the other night on the radio saying one of the big problems in Italy is that their now believe it was brought into the country in early January way before it was officially identified and could be tracked

That is pheasible and would point to the same happening in the UK and elsewhere. Suggests the official stats may be skewed.

genuinely had a pg student come to visit my office not long ago with 2 questions. after answering the first they stated their dad is an international traveller who NHS advised to self isolate.
they came to see me, as they have developed a cough, and wonder whether they should be attending or not.

I would be shitting myself if my pension/nest egg was linked to the markets. Can't help but think back to Deutschy's post concerning gold exports at the back end of 2019.

Just been accosted by the whole of hr with a hundred questions
Basically told me if we still go to the UK in 2 weeks time, that upon my return I won't be able to come to work for 3 weeks and that I should work from home to get paid.
I stated as it's very fluid right now we are playing it day by day until the day we leave as we can cancel right up to the day we fly out

Yet the Commander in Chief was telling you it was a hoax ..

I’d wager that the situation in the US will be worse then here by the time you fly.

Unless your pension is due to be paid out very shortly then I wouldn't worry unduly - markets rise & fall regularly. Had a stocks & shares ISA that I put £7000 in (when that was the max you could do in any one year) - dropped to a value of £3000 at one point, but paid out nearly £12000 when I did cash it in.

Aussie F1 on the verge of being cancelled.

Well I suppose the old adage buy low sell high springs to mind. Some people will get very rich off the back of this.

Back in the day at HBOS we used to sell accounts that were dodgy as fuck in retrospect.

Five year term, they took a measurement of the FTSE 100 over three months from when you opened it, then a measurement over the final three months. If it was higher at the end than at the start, you got a pretty decent return (up to about 40% was the highest I think we ever did). If it was the same or lower, just your money back and a 0% return. Ouch if those still existed (they don't now, much like a lot of the iffy shit they were pulling when I started there).

MLS shut down for 30 days.
MLB start postponed.

Pension funds normally reduce the risks the closer you get to retirement so I'd say that anyone close now should be sitting reasonably pretty on the basis that their pot would have been taken out of stocks and shares whilst the figure was high a few years earlier.

That's pretty standard policy for reputable firms - money gets moved into Govt Bonds or cash based investment as it comes up to payment

Suggests to me the Chinese knew there was a problem, tried to keep a lid on it and found that they couldn't.
Wouldn't believe a word of what they say tbh.

No suggestion about it. They did do that.

Fairly sure I had Coronavirus on 20th December looking back on it...that was a rough few days.

Not like i know anything other that what i've been reading the same as most people but i think it's definitely a possibility that it has been around in this country for a while too. How many deaths before we started counting have happened over the first 2 months have been similar to those attributed to Covid-19.

I was properly ill in early January but pretty sure it wasn't Covid. No breathing issues as such and I would have noticed with my underlying condition.
