Comedians

I don't quite get the controversy over it, do the people who are offended think he actually believes it's a positive gpsies were killed in the Holocaust?

I thought the joke was making a point about how gypsies are still regarded by society as a lower class of human by alot of society.
That would work with some comedians, he doesn't have that audience. He's not Stewart Lee

Agree alot of the people were probably laughing for the wrong reasons. It's like when racists used to miss the point and laugh at Alf Garnett.

It's a shit joke that doesn't even make sense.

Well I'm seeing him in a few months. Tickets bought in 2018, originally due to be 2020, but rescheduled, so I hope he doesn't get "cancelled"...
Enjoy, as had been mentioned he deliberately pushes the jokes and taste across boundaries to make you feel uncomfortable.

It's clever and the audience, in my experience, know this.

The David Baddiel tweet perfectly sums up *that* joke and is a little out of context for the rest of his show which is far better than that.

I also have in my mind that Carr comes from a hugely privileged upbringing and doesn't mind a bit of tax evasion.

People like Stuart Lee but I find his sneering delivery very difficult to get on with even if the material is funny.

Those who express their outrage and revulsion at Jimmy Carr's joke about gypsies and the Holocaust while simultaneously saying nothing about his material concerning rape, disabled people and shagging children.

I was surprised to find out that he doesn't come from a privileged background, he's done well for himself but its not been gifted to him from birth.

To be honest only watched it out of some sort of morbid curiosity after the furore surrounding ‘that’ joke, but the main conversation in our house afterwards was precisely around the point you’ve made.

I don't really know how to articulate my thoughts here other than to say, I think "offensive" jokes are fine as long as the punch line isn't an innocent person. Pretty much what David baddiel said.

The joke would be fine if it had some kind of actual punchline or logic to it. But it's essentially just going "ha haaa they all got killed", which isn't good, either on a structural or humorous level.

At the other end of the spectrum got tickets for Peter Kay’s Dance for Life at Ally Pally in April. Sounds like it’s going to be a couple of thousand pissed-up people dancing and singing along to all the cheesy classics like some sort of manic school disco. Wasn’t sure about it but everyone that’s been seems to say it’s a stonking night out. Just wondered if any of you guys have been?

I think the 'punchline' is the bit where he explains the joke and highlights the atrocities the Nazis committed.

just bought tickets for adam kays new tour for september!
even now, if I try to tell someone how the previous show ends I get emotional, as it is so hard hitting!

The "you had to be there" joke is such a brutal takedown of God, holy shit.
David Baddiel is great - had a proper varied career, not sure how well he will come across in the US but worth looking him out on youtube.

Baddiel is indeed superb. His my family not the sitcom show was awesome. Trolls not dolls was also very good.
Fond memories of listening to the mary whitehouse experience on the radio!

Joe Lycett has had to cancel his WIP show tonight as his train has been cancelled and he can't get to the venue!

Don't understand this. Why is no-one available to drive him?

depends where he is to be fair.
also, unsure he is wealthy enough to employ a driver to be on standby all the time. Perhaps in a major tour, but he'd be in the town/city most likely. This is a self arranged warm up/rehearsal show for the tour. The audience is only 100 people.

Maybe he doesn't want to do the show
