Just because he's shit at Spurs doesn't mean he'd have gone to shit at Wolves.
It is telling about his baseline level of "quality", though. And that's without getting into whether or not Lage would make the tactical concessions Nuno did in order to make Doc shine.

Different players. Semedo is better defensively, Doherty more effective going forwards. He'd have at least 3 goals this season if presented with the chances Semedo has missed.
Neither is ideal for our wing back system.
Aye, but I know which I prefer given the choice.

The concessions again! 🤣

Doherty was a consistently effective performer throughout Nuno's time at Wolves, that's the only baseline that matters. How he performed before or since in different roles or systems is irrelevant, he was a useful cog in the machine that existed at the time. None of the alterations to the machinery since have shown him up to have been a defective part.

This is very accurate. Semedo can't cross himself really.

As Nuno is no longer here, I'd say that Doc's baseline under him is quite insignificant.

Doherty was out the door first, any assumption of how he'd perform now under Lage is pointless.
Then what are we even talking about?

Nuno didn't get the sack because we sold Doherty.

We miss Doherty's goals, the changes we've been able to make elsewhere by having a more defensively assured wingback haven't made up for it.

Doherty had been found out. His strength in our promotion season and first season back in the PL was drifting unnoticed into acres of space halfway into the opposition half, then a long diagonal would find him. He had that much space he had time to miscontrol one or twice and still have time to make it into the box. Teams sussed it and put players on him, space was gone and threat nullified. He'd never be able to change his game and Nuno got rid.

Doherty never scored more than 4 league goals in a season for us, this gets wildly overstated.

Why are we talking about the beardy bastard again?

Who claimed anything like that?

We're talking about Doherty's role in the team he was actually part of, Nuno's Wolves team. People like to claim he was given excessive special treatment to excel, he wasn't, at a massive detriment to other players, who since failed to blossom without that burden.

Doherty fulfilled his role in that team well over the entire time he was part of it, like many others, and the group haven't exactly pushed on to another level since he left, suggesting he wasn't quite the dead weight that is often claimed.

Should probably get Ryan Bennett back too. More than fulfilled his role, I'd say much more so than Doherty.

Perhaps people who watch us in person week in week out have more of a view on what he offered (or didn't) - especially off the ball - than non-Wolves fans who exclusively see us on TV.

Oh the martyrdom of the match go-er, grow up Dan.

I haven't said anywhere that Doherty should have been kept forever. He was certainly a player who should've been looked to be upgraded, like Bennett too, though it's less than clear cut that either really have been as yet. I've merely pointed out that he wasn't completely useless or fortunate to get some sort of unheard of golden boy tactical treatment from Nuno.

Who knows though, it's suppose it's all just guesswork from outside Molineux eh?

I'll leave you to it mate, I have to go and tell Man Utd fans that they're wrong about Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Outrageous really, £41 for a game against them. Hope you enjoy the match though and that it’s as good a result as your last.
1-0 against Middlesbrough, bonatini latching onto a defensive error if memory serves..

That being said I did go to Shrewsbury away as my father in law is a town fan

Bit confused with how the tickets work tbf. Got wolves membership this year, and games like West Ham there were tickets available still but in family stand so you can’t get them without taking an under 13, yet there was no tickets together and just the individual seats sporadically spread. Can’t imagine many people taking a 13 year old and sitting a fair distance away 🤨

Doc doesn't get to any of the balls Semedo gets onto. He hasn't got the pace.

But he got in to the box, headed crosses and actually scored goals and assisted - none of which Semedo has done.

This isn’t a slight on Semedo or a debate about who’s better. But there’s been some proper stupid remarks about Doherty on here today (this isn’t news). I just don’t get why it’s being done again.
