Bratislava Home Game Build Up

Raul has 12 goals and 3 assists in his 21 games. He's clearly been our best player this season statistically wise.

For me the best player is still Moutinho, the man is a footballing genius. If Neves can play every game like he did last night (bar the penalty miss) he wont be far off either.

Im the biggest zaha fan, but his style of play is not like traores at all, he plays more like a faster jota with worse finishing if anything. Id live to see him here but hed be a starter for any team apart from city and liverpool, wont come here, and we couldnt afford him if he did

Obviously raul and moutinho are far better footballers than traore, but traore has been more important to us this season. How many of rauls goals have been due to traore, either through a cross or him bringing the ball down and passing it inside the box for someone to set up raul?

If POTS was ran today there would be only 2 options, Raul and Traore. The improvement in Traore this season has been impressive, is he a complete footballer? No, but there's no doubting that game time and time with Nuno has really improved him.

Onto last night, we were deserved winners, and more encouragingly 2 good performances from Neves in a row!

I'm a little surprised by the love in for Killman, he was hardly challenged by Slovan!

Neto had another poor game, he looks weak and it appears he's struggling to step up to playing in the 1st team.

Moutinho has been our best player this season, Raul second.

Rui has been excellent as well. Boly a few shaky performances but then more than a few colossal ones and of course that winner in Istanbul...

He wasn't, but it was what, his 4th professional game? Ever? He doesn't look out of place playing alongside full internationals and had no hint of nerves...it's worth a bit of praise IMO.

That's fair, but I'm sure I've seen some comments about him being Motm? Just saying I think he praise has been a bit OTT given he had very little to do.

I also think he was better against Villa.

I'll give you Rui, so 3 players in the running then!

No.

He's had a few games where he has vanished, his corners have been a little wayward and he's been unable to create much this season.

Some of which I'd put down to the formation, some to the out ball to doc being missing and some due to the volume of games. No way on earth he's been our best player this season.

I thought Kilman looked incredibly comfortable with the ball at his feet (futsal I guess?). His complete lack of pace and ungainlyness (is that a word?) will worry me in the future.

This is my frustration with him. I get people like being entertained and the defenders do double up on him because they think he's a danger but all those tricks (like Vinagre) mean the square root of Nowt unless you have an end product.

Andy is right that 3-4-3 works because our inside forwards are fast and tricky and tax defenders, we just need Traore to get an end product or replace him with somebody who has.

7 assists (i think it's more actually?) and 2 goals in 20ish games (and he hasn't played every minute) seems like pretty good end product to me?

My issue with Traore’s delivery is that it’s always a bit floaty, very rarely puts in any crosses with pace so they’re always going to be harder for the striker to do much with unless someone can run onto them at the perfect time. Also I think Neto and Traore stay a bit too wide when the other has it which means they aren’t getting in the box to get on the end of anything that might come their way. Doherty is pretty good at making his way into the box from the right to make up for it but a few times we needed Vinagre or Neto to be gambling more at the far post.

Overall we played a lot faster and with more intent than I personally have seen this season, it’s really good to see Neves a bit further forward and influencing the game a bit more. Raul on penalties though please!

Well I must say I enjoyed the match last night very much we were lively again from the start. Though we did give them some encouragement in the openning minutes we pretty much bossed it all through the match.
We were much more positive than how than we have been in the early part of this season, although we just dont get enough players in the box when we are crossing. As someone said our inside forwards dont tuck in when we approach from the opposite wing, this is tactical to allow the switch (often too slow) or keep the box relatively clear as we prefer to just have a couple of bodies in there and space to work. Although we struggled to get on the score sheet and missed a penalty we just kept going as we do, I for one never give up on this team but obviously it would be nice to score earlier in games.

Neves playing further up the pitch made a huge difference the guy is class although why you'd get him to take the penalty over Raul who is scoring for fun in the EL is a bit of a mystery for me. The crossing from Doc has to be so precise to pick out the often one man in the box so he tries to pass it and it gets blocked a lot, Traore just gets it in the box if he can despite having two markers. My only bugbear is why bring on Cutrone if we ain't gonna try and pick out his runs, as I have said before we are a little over safe in passing in the final third. All in all a decent performance and the whole of Europe knows that Wolves didn't disappear after the glory of the 50's.

Non footballing - Arkowolf pointed out that the racist chants aimed at them all would seem a bit disappinting for the decent Bratislava fans (I wouldn't like it being tarred with the minority of *no word suffices*).

Langers got to sit/stand by the rancid farter in the south bank if he is the same one near hh93 I feel your pain (most home games) he f***ing stinks. I often shout "medic" when he does it.

On a last note player had to stay in hospital overnight sufferring a concussion so hope he is OK.

@admins - petition to re-open the Traore thread please

Thinking more about getting in the box for cutbacks and follow up - that's often something we rely on our WBs to do with Jonny & Doc being particularly good at it. Yesterday with a lot of the attacking threat, crosses and pull backs coming from Traore & Doc on the right, but with no Jonny (or Jota) on the left for late runs we looked a bit toothless. Having Jonny in the team then I think this will improve.

On a more general point Vinagre needs to realise the aim is to keep the ball often, rather than pull out a few tricks - Traore fairly often plays a simple pass back diagonally to Neves when he gets surrounded, Vini should try that at times.

Vinagre is a bit OTT at times but we have a real gem there. I'm surprised Nuno lets him do all that Ronaldo stuff but he's 20 he'll develop he's got the attributes just not the awareness. Lets hope he gets as good as his talent can take him and his speed will make him a superstar.

Absolutely. Hopefully it will click at some point.

Now I am going to suggest something. Its a little off the wall. I think Vinagre would be a decent left side forward. He has pace, skill and can shoot. I would not be upset to see him start there as a trial as back up to Jota and Neto.

Before you shoot me remember Gareth Bale started as a left back.
