Bratislava Home Game Build Up

I am fine with Traore 2019 compared to him 2018. Hits the first man too often. Yes. But is making better choices. He just has to realise that not eveyone can run as fast as him. Two or three passes to Doc were absolutely the right incisive ball but a tad too hard.

Now I am going to suggest something. Its a little off the wall. I think Vinagre would be a decent left side forward. He has pace, skill and can shoot. I would not be upset to see him start there as a trial as back up to Jota and Neto.

Before you shoot me remember Gareth Bale started as a left back.

Don’t disagree with the at all. Most of his benefits (all?) are in the attacking areas. Would rather have him there than Neto at the moment.

Thought Vinny was often too far forward when receiving the ball last night which limited his ability square up and really commit his his man. Their full back was quite happy to just try and stand him up as there was limited space for him to drive in behind.

No drama, it's been suggested a fair few times on here

As was MGW

I tried that on FIFA and it worked ok, Vinagre is super fast and skillful so he got lots of assists but his shooting was woeful naturally!

One more vote for that. Could easily see Jonny at LWB and Viagra ahead of him

Well I don't think he'd be a flop...

He'd certainly have the stamina to go up and down his favoured area for ages.

Does that mean he'd have to play in the hole?

Did Parkin get hammered and cause a bit of trouble?

Also, this is another example of the headline not matching the story. The police cheif advises that the Bratislava fans were very good natured FFS!

Hoi - I resent that slur on my good character

I'll have you know that I was up the 'posh' end in the Novotel last night as fortunately they had a deal that was only a couple of quid more than Redwings (& cheaper than Premier Inn or Brittania)

Suspected that Redwings would have a fair number of away fans in as it did for both Crusaders & Braga though both of those groups were fine - thought that this lot might well not be as affable

Busy day so finally getting round to writing how I felt.

Good result, OK performance. First 30 mins we were pretty good with the right hand side being a real outlet. Thought it was simply going to be a matter of time before we scored (although despite all the good positions we didn’t really create anything decent except a deflected shot and an opportunistic shot from Raul).

Although as the game went into the second half we started to struggle. We were given a lifeline by the penalty. But for some bizarre reason Neves took it, despite us having one of the best takers on the planet on the pitch. Think I’ve seen him miss more than he’s scored now too. His technique isn’t even good. Doesn’t wait out the Keeper, just stops and telegraphs where it’s going to go. Either smash it like Milner with disguise, place it in a spot the keeper can’t save it with power or wait out the keeper.

Thought Neto was pretty ineffective, not sure he’s ready to start games and be a threat regularly. Didn’t seem to have enough pace to trouble them and his crossing was woeful. Vinagre didn’t offer much either. Not sure why we think he will be better further forward, loads of step overs but no end product. His crossing is only marginally better than Traore, but Traore makes up for it with sheer volume. Vinagre never actually beat him man when 1 v 1 (still did 20 step overs though).

Kilman was solid, very comfortable on the ball. Lost pretty much every aerial challenge to their number 9 which is strange considering he’s such a big lad. Doc was alright, except he got in behind several times but again the key pass was lacking. Twice smashing it into the defenders shins with so much time and space. Should have scored as well, either take a touch or head it far post.

Neves and Moutinho controlled the game. Raul played very well. Just didn’t quite have the service. If Jota plays we probably win comfortably but he’s suspended and we lack any significant quality behind the first team still. Without him and Traore I think we’d struggle to score goals at all, and we’re not exactly prolific at the minute.

Still, got the job done and now just need to beat Braga to make up for the home defeat to win the group.

Missed 2? Apparently that was our first miss (not inc pen shoot outs and friendlies) since Neves missed v Sheff Utd in the Championship

Well I saw him that one against Sheff Utd and I am including friendlies and penalties. He may have scored a few (75% should be a given for any player) but he’s missed enough and I’ve seen enough to know he’s not very good at them. Even if he was good, Raul is great so give him the ball

Thats one for Nuno isn't. Seems Neves and Raul are both our penalty takers and determine before the game who will take them and in what order (so like Spurs last season where they took 1 each). Presume in Europe they have decided if Neves is on the pitch he will take the 1st one.

Obviously Nuno doesn't think he is bad at them (apart from last nights) or else he would remove him from them.

Apparently the reasoning is that if Raul has already taken the last one against a particular goalkeeper then Ruben has the next one to stop familiarity from the goalkeepers perspective making it easier to guess. I think we will be re-visiting that!
