Braga 3-3 Wolves: The Verdict

Raul is impossibly verging on my favourite ever Wolves footballer (after Paul Ince). We'll be better than Arsenal. Nuno needs to publically fuck them off very quickly ...

The replay shows it was never a pen. Their defender barely even touched him, and Neto tripped himself up.

Have to disagree, there was a slight push on Neto's shoulder initially (probably not enough on its own) but then the defenders thigh clips his trailing leg and at the pace he was running he was always going to go down,,,,pen for me

Neto is stumbling before the contact. Difficult for a ref to give that.

Possibly one of the worst away trips I’ve had. I’d rather sit on the back row at palace.

Weather awful and been made to stand in it for hours by an awful police who are lucky it didn’t kick off. Organisation a shambles. If they couldn’t handle that crowd then they shouldn’t have sold that many tickets. Pitch was terrible which didn’t help the game. Stadium shit. Atmosphere disappointing.

And to top it off we conceded 3 goals to team who would struggle in the championship. They looked seriously woeful. Never mind, we are through. Don’t think the seeding will matter too much anyway and I think resting a few for the next game is a wise move.

Disappointing after being so much in control, just like Bournemouth Jota has a chance to put the game to bed and that ends up being the turning point.

Worth noting that Dendoncker has twice failed to concentrate on return balls into the box, he failed to track Lascelles at Newcastle, and the he lost their goalscorer for the header last night.

Obviously Saiss and Doc were at fault for their 2nd, i thought Saiss looked a bit ropey generally last night.

I thought the pitch and the weather looked to be a leveller. Braga look better than a championship team though. I would sooner play Bratislava than them. The goals we conceded were either a fluke or piss poor . Donk did lose their marker and Doc did get beaten easily but it was a real parks pitch. I would have hated to try and play football on what effectively was a muddy beach.

I think Cutrone should score with the ball in at the near post at 3-3. Jota was unluck with his header, a foot further left and its in. Traore got a bit lucky with his finish as the keeper dived all around it. Seemed to go through him. Beaten for pace! I thpought Coady was good and defo Raul wanted a yellow! Thought we would get a point , happy with a point and happy no-one got crocked in the Ypres like conditions

I'm dead.

Loved last night though. Porto is absolutely phenomenal.

Got home about an hour ago and I’m knackered. Was in Braga the whole time Wednesday night was ace, was hanging yesterday so took it easy so I could enjoy the game.
Was caught up in the pre game chaos as we got to the ground for about 1630, but you could easily tell the system was going to fail. Ticket check at the bottom of the hill, then a treck up a grass hill completely sodden in rain.
Then funnelled through gates for an extensive search and another ticket check, then to the ground ticket goes into a scanner, only 8 of these were open.
Policing was as intimidating as I’ve ever known, for starters they had batons drawn and ready for use at a moments notice.
Even the walk back into town they lined the streets for about half a mile.
Didn’t see any trouble initiated by any Wolves, atmosphere in town was lively but good natured.
Local people were fantastic bar, restaurant, hotel staff bent over backwards for us.
Overall good experience and would do it again.

Lycan and I had a much more tolerable experience getting in and out of the ground compared to a lot of Wolves fans as we (entirely inadvertently - thanks Google maps) approached the stadium down the cliff at the back of the ground rather than from up the hill. A large number of Wolves fans with tickets in the official away section didn't even get into the ground until after at least two of the goals. Some people only saw the second half. Feel very sorry for them.

The only slightly hairy moment for me was when three police armed with really long batons after the match all took on a warrior stance and cornered me as I was trying to go to a trailer where fans had been asked to store their umbrellas before the game (yes, I had an umbrella - the rain has only just stopped here in Porto since I arrived yesterday at noon).

As for the day, it was surreal seeing so many Wolves fans so far from home. The atmosphere was great. Got some amazing videos. Only real downside for me was the weather, which has been truly horrendous. Probably the worst conditions I've seen at a football match. And the pitch showed it.

As for the match, unlike some people I was with (ahem), I was sober enough to enjoy it! What an incredible first half. I actually missed their first goal as I was posting a photo in the matchday thread [emoji23]

We were unplayable at times. Moutinho majestic in midfield, including once when - despite the ball landing in a six inch puddle in front of him - he totally mugged off an opposition player with an outrageous Cruyff turn and set us off on attack.

Jonny's cross for our first was excellent. He should do this more often. Raúl for our second was imperious stuff. At times, it's like he has games under his total control. Adama's confidence must be sky high right now - what a strike for our third.

Half time came too soon for us really. We were so dominant.

Second half was a disappointment which, for a couple of hours post-match, threatened to ruin the whole trip until a sense of perspective kicked in. Two sloppy goals to give away, but the main things for me were (i) obvious fatigue (god knows what that pitch will have taken out of our players' legs) and (ii) our bench still isn't strong enough.

Overall, though, you've got to be happy with where we are and what we've achieved. The sight of our players playing so well in Europe isn't something I ever thought I'd witness. We were so dominant at times in that first half. There's a real feeling of us building something special here.

Porto is a lovely city by the way. Lots of sightseeing today to the soundtrack of the distant sound of some hoarse black country accents, singing. The waiter in the restaurant I'm in is mixed race with a beard and has had a table of 10 serenade him with Nuno Had A Dream for the best part of two hours. Notwithstanding the trouble in the week (largely attributable to the Liege fans, by all accounts) the Porto locals really do seem to love all things Wolves.

Yep there were loads of empty seats by us after kick off and filled up as the half progressed the later they came the angrier they seemed. These people didn’t look they would cause trouble just hacked off at their treatment.
Stadium was just bizarre and a feat of engineering, although just trying to go for a piss at half time was an effort trying to walk pas t everyone in the row. No flip back seats so proved tricky and almost fell.

Looking at Wolves squad and thinking that Braga would be a championship level team is mind blowing.

Even more making it a surprise after the 2 games, when Wolves got 1 point out of the 2 games with them...

And extra info: Braga has a fool for a manager this year and is probably the worse Braga of the last decade. They are sitting at 9th in portuguese league.

Given your exclusive insights into Nuno, I'll pass on your manager views ta. How's your hot take that Marco Silva is a far superior manager holding up?

I’m not entirely sure what your point is here?

Wolves lost to Huddersfield twice last year. Braga are 9th in a joke shop league, ergo shit.

Wolves gave a squad 5th In the best league In the world full of internationals (a lot of them Portuguese internationals). I don’t know any of Braga’s team and as far as I know none of them play top international football.

NES is still a poor manager. Its not an insight it's an opinion like any other.

Marco Silva is superior imo too. Wish he would come to Benfica actually so I can't be more sincere.

Marco Silva is doing his level best to relegate Everton. EVERTON. He’s rubbish.

Exactly. You don't know the Braga team. That's why you get to write ridiculous stuff like being at championship level and yet Wolves can't beat them.

As for the joke shop league, Wolves portuguese internationals both came from there.

Also the joke shop league, is the league of origin of the national team that that won the last 2 official european competitions.
