Boxing thread

Strongly disagree.
I will never call anyone brave enough to get in a ring shit
I think he's limited, but the whole division bar VK is.

I think it is a reflection on the division how far he's got with so little talent, he really is pretty poor. Fair play to him for wanting to be the best he can though. I still think he was lucky that Haye got injured/ducked him and now this though! Builds the myth that he's a proper contender for a bit longer. Haye would have massacred him, Wlad will eventually, if he fights AJ then it's Goodnight Vienna.

I have seen worse world champions, John Ruiz for example.

I got in the ring for a charity match once and I was most definitely shit. Lumbering round the ring not doing much, bit like someone else..

Sorry Dan I don't agree. The issue is with heavyweight there's no upper limit whereas every other division there is. Consequently they can appear lethargic and limited but at the weight they are top class.
Big fan of Haye, but I had my doubts all round about that fight.
Joshua is unreal but like how he's being built.

Victim of circumstance Stu I think with how I rate him (not that he would give a shit what I think!). Because it's basically been the Klitschkos and nothing for years there is no second tier. So while I think Tyson has fought mainly bums and a broken Chisora, what else could he have fought? I just don't see him as top level technically, nowhere near, whereas AJ has the lot. I think Anthony Ogogo is a better "pure" boxer than Tyson if that makes sense and while it's a different division he's got nowhere.

Maybe it's because our generation was spoiled with Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis that I look down a bit on what the heavyweight division has become. I do like the Klitschkos but a prime Lewis would have eaten them both up time after time. Wlad has been allowed to coast along on easy points wins for ages against contenders who aren't ever going to knock him out.

Out of interest where would you rank either Klitschko over the last 25 years mate?

Lewis
Tyson
Holyfield
V Klitschko
W Klitschko
Moorer

For me since 1990 or so. Haye didn't spend enough time at HW to be considered, nor did Roy Jones Jr (what a fighter). AJ will go in there within two years and maybe Wilder too. I don't see Tyson Fury troubling the list though I agree that you have to respect any man who gets in the ring.

I love his power but I'm not sure he's really been tested so far. He does blast people away which always looks great.

I cant disagree much with that list. Moorer lost to George Foreman I believe so I might go with David Tua in his place although Moorer did beat Holyfield. Tyson was on the way down for most of the decade.
Tua lost once in the 90s. 35-1 record so kept busy and beat 3 future champions in Rahman Ruiz and Maskaev

Before 1990 Tyson was an absolute animal and I've not seen anyone even close to him since.
