Boxing thread

Its just a complete circus. I hope they both knock each other out after 10 seconds! So much hype. I like the idea of money on a DQ. Thats a good call especially if he gets past 3 or 4 rounds. Muscle memory and all that.

just heard more about this circus on the radio this morning.

i'd be amazed if McGregor won this in a 50/50 there's always a chance and he must be a fit lad.

i think it is about the money for Mayweather, though I can't believe he'd take this fight if he wasn't absolutely convinced he's going to win.

whilst he's got the "perfect record" on paper, Castillo had him beaten relatively comfortably in their first fight. the extent to which the judges awarded it to Mayweather tells you how corrupt that decision was, and not for the first time.

Mayweather does need the money as he has a big IRS bill to pay.

As for the fight somehow people seem to expect a man who 5 yrs ago was being battered around the ring in the early rounds of the Irish Amateur Intermediate Championship with a corner that has never before taken part in a fight, to somehow beat arguably the greatest boxer of all times by being "unconventional."

This ignoring the fact that some of the best minds, trainers and fighters in boxing have been trying for the last 15 years to find an angle to beat Mayweather and not managed it.

Although in fairness to him McGregor has already achieved one thing in the build up which people thought was impossible, he has managed to make Mayweather look the well-mannered, decent, reasonable one....

I read something years ago that Marciano had an early fight essentially scrubbed from his record by crediting an early loss to a fake name

Arena not sold out, shows even in Vegas there is a limit to the number of guilable people you can find.

So the bars won't be allowed to show tbe fight. Also at $2k for a shit seat it's hardly feasible for the general public

I'm still talking to people who think McGregor has ' a real chance', mainly none boxing fans who just have blind faith in his MMA skills prevailing.

There are some big bets going down in Vegas and they're perhaps understandably all going on Floyd. 6 and 7 figure bets. The real money is coming in late and it doesn't get it wrong very often. Paddy Power paying out on Floyd winning already gives you an indication of how much, or little has been put on Mayweather over here because of such unnatractive odds, which are now at around the best so far.

And there we go - as predicted McGregor totally outclassed - but mad respect to Conor for stepping in there with one of the best ever. Win win for him. He leaves £100m better off, can look after his family for life - can say he went 10 x rounds with a guy who finished 50-0, and he wasn't totally embarrassed. Back to UFC now to defend those belts.

Fair play to Floyd. He can retire with his head held high & not a scratch on him.

Absolute masterclass from Mayweather.

Fair play to McGregor, put up more of a fight than I thought he would, but Mayweather was always going to be too good.

agreed, not a K.O and money in the pocket..not his sport though

Not his sport but he didn't show boxing the respect it deserves and neither did the thousands who blindly said he would win. Yes McGregor can fight but he can't box anywhere near the standard required, it's an art that few master but Floyd has.

exactly, a master in boxing...I really value boxing and all different aspects of it...moving around, hitting and avoiding to get hit to win on points and the straight KO's..

Tyson had a jaw made of glass though

Just watched it on YouTube. Couldn't be bothered to stay up. What a load of rubbish.

Not sure anyone could expect different though

A glorified exhibition, Mayweather will retire at 50-0 and that's that.

Wasn't very happy having to get up twice when I first found out the fight beforehand was only just starting at 4am!

That fight was crap. Mcgregors technique was awful, and Mayweather was sloppy too, turning his back wtf?

Aye agree to this, McGregors camp didnt even bring someone with any boxing knowledge into the team, so no tactics or nous whatsoever, infact they couldnt even tie his gloves correctly.
