Was a piece on this on Radio 4 this morning - previous chair of the committee (who actually did the report) stating that the committee members are supposed to elect the chair , which should be non partisan. It's not a government appointment!

Every answer was the same in that the leader of the opposition should be supporting the government and that it was wrong to be questioned about anything. Asked if he read a report about the readiness of NHS to cope with winter and he couldn't even answer yes.

Ended with a rebuke from the speaker for not addressing the chair and playing to the sycophants behind cheering his supposed joke about CK briefs.

Two points
1) the VAT reduction does not apply to alcohol. So that is a lie.
2) Let's say it did - then if £1.29 is the price with 5% VAT, then £1.47 is the price with 20% VAT and the pints weren't £1.47

So, this is a lie. They've shored up revenue with this loan and will be making profits elsewhere (probably on their shit breakfasts) and misleading customers

This also plays in to make it look like other bars aren't passing on the saving. They can't pass on the saving - there isn't one!

The instigated tax equality between pubs and supermarkets is also bullshit. Unfortunately I found an article in the Guess & Stir where he says that supermarkets have no VAT on food sales whereas pubs do. In the first instance 5% VAT on food is still not 0% on food. Secondly he's not comparing apples to apples as whilst the sale of food is 0% rated the sale of meals isn't. I'll stand correctly if I'm wrong but I'm sure that the shit breakfasts in the Cafe at Morrisions have the same level of VAT as the shit breakfasts in Wetherspoons and always have done. Mr Sunak is not responsible for that.
