Best England Cricket XI - 1978 to 2020

As Jimmy Ormond told Mark Waugh, at least he was the best cricketer in his family :icon_lol:

I can't really contribute to a Windies one, they've been mostly rubbish in my time. First time I remember them is 1991 and they were already on the way down. BC Lara is of course a genius and I saw plenty of Curtly and Courtney, but not them at their real pomp.

What next? An England ODI team? A WORST England XI?

Let me loose on a worst XI! James Vince, I'm gunning for you

Yep. Greenidge and Haynes must open

I didn't face him but I saw Paul Smith up close in the Edgbaston nets around 1994/5ish. I don't think even on my best of best days I'd have managed to get near nicking one.

Didn't get any drugs off him either.

Listen, I went down the pitch to a 13 year old Charlotte Edwards and was beaten all ends up .

Oh the worst 11. Please

Or a rest of the world 11 to beat that Paddington Winies 11

Don’t diss Irani. There’s a signed caricature of him up in our clubhouse!

Habib and Lathwell have to be in a worst XI. Even Paddy can’t defend that Somerset opener.

Andy Lloyd started one innings of one Test before Malcolm Marshall broke his eye socket. Not sure that qualifies him for the worst ever.

Scored 10 never seen again. If he was half decent he would have had a second chance. England were bang average then. Leftie perchance?

Let Sniffer finish this one, then you can start arguing when it starts...

Why is every thread like this at the moment, no-one can wait their bloody turn :icon_lol:

10 not out and not really, he lost partial sight in his eye, didn't play for a year and by his own admission couldn't play at the same level

I should have gone Haynes ahead of Ritchie Rich. My mistake. Still both super players.

We could do this for India and Pakistan as well (I want dear departed Abdul Qadir as a spinner in that Pakistan line up!)

Gower is already trying to hire a plane.

TWF England XI (1978 to 2020)

1. Cook
2. Gooch (Captain)
3. Trott
4. Gower
5. Pietersen
6. Stokes
7. Stewart
8. Botham
9. Broad
10. Swann
11. Anderson

I’d have gone left field and gone for Stokes but Gooch was winner by a huge margin.

Anyone up for a World XI from the same period?
